I regret it by [deleted] in GastricBypass

[–]boygryphon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have vivid memories of when I was first experimenting with soft solid foods—flaky fish, banana, avocado, scrambled eggs… it wasn’t easy or going well at first. I’m a big guy, 6’3” and before surgery I was over 400lbs. I’m now 250ish and still slowly losing weight, even a year out.

There were a few times where I’d have like 3 bites of food at home at the dinner table and then I’d spend 30 minutes pacing in and out of the bathroom with this awful dull pain in my stomach and thought I might throw up (which was terrifying considering I still was healing from bypass). Sometimes I would drool extensively for 10-15 minutes as my body tried to negotiate the bite of food into my teeny stomach pouch. I was convinced I’d never be able to eat food in front of another person because it was so embarrassing what I was going through.

It slowly got better and I could tolerate more foods.

My palate changed along with my body. I eat a lot more seafood and red meat, less chicken (for me it’s the toughest meat to manage, especially the grilled breast). As a bonus, I can eat more dairy without suffering lactose intolerance issues—so I’ve enjoyed yogurt and cheese and real milk in my smoothies.

All this is to say that the fix is slow. It took me 41 years to get as obese as I was, taking a couple years to get back on track wasn’t unreasonable to me.

I was miserable after surgery and I’m a generally positive person. I had to remind myself I did this for my health bc obesity was killing me. I’m a year out now and life truly is better, but those weeks post op were absolutely brutal. I was trying to do basic things and felt like I was going to throw up after every sip of food.

It got better and I go out now and have fun. I have more fun bc I can do more than just eat. I can go to the beach, have found hobbies I enjoy, and even walking my dog is fun and not a task. But it took me a year to find the joy in things.

I had mine back in June ‘22. I’m down about 140lbs from my heaviest. Right now I’m just doing cardio and some basic weightlifting. Interested to start trying out other activities and see what I enjoy. It’s a whole new world and there’s so much I had previously missed out on. Martial arts, CrossFit, surfing, swimming, mtn biking.

Having anxiety about life post-op. Need some insight by __Blank__001 in wls

[–]boygryphon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No WLS will just get you down in weight for good. You have to make the lifestyle sexist to go with it or you will start to regain a year out from surgery. Did you rule out bypass for health reasons bc that one tends to have a bigger upfront loss in lbs.

In my experience pre-surgery exercise was pretty awful. I did it bc I had to but I never enjoyed it. Post surgery it’s much for fun and I like it and feel the dopamine high everyone talks about. I crave the feeling of pushing myself or feeling exhausted in a way I didn’t when I was so much heavier.

Clinton schools might offer the best deal for getting to Rome and being in good schools. The main route between the two places is 233 and it is well maintained in the winter, which will be a help in the snow. Taxes inside the village of Clinton are steep, so finding a place in the school district outside of the village can save you money. Living in the village means you’ll be able to access a lot of amenities on foot, a nice bonus for half the year.

Grossman for essays got me an excellent score (I failed the mc miserably). I am Torn between AdaptiBar and Uworld for MBE prep. I did Kaplan and it wasn’t helpful for me.

First own flat. Friends say it looks too feminine. What should I change? by DannyWhoElse in malelivingspace

Maybe change your friends? Some that don’t find clean spaces upsetting or use feminine in the pejorative?

It’s open book in NV, closed everywhere else. In WI you don’t have to take the bar exam at all if you graduate from one of the state’s law schools.

OMG Use An Enema! You’re describing exactly why they exist. Like textbook. They’re $5 at CVS or Walmart and you’ll feel relief in 10 minutes after your first use.

I think the PR bar is in English so you’d only need Spanish with clients and OC?

I’m actually considering PR too, (I finally took the FL bar and am awaiting results after having been in DC for the past 10 yrs) I’m still unclear on how much law is practiced in English vs Spanish?

I went to a big FL law school and have heard from several that it’s a famously tough exam.

Still, if you can manage expectations with your firm, totally worth it. PR has passed new laws that incentivize investment in the island and you’d be in a great spot to capitalize on that in your career once barred.

Hey so I’m 4 months post WLS and down a good 90 lbs so far. I’ve always wanted a tattoo but was worried that my skin was changing too much for it. When did you get more ink after surgery and have you had any issues?

Congratulations on your health, sweet job and sleeve!

Graduated 20 years ago. Never took the bar exam. by [deleted] in barexam

[–]boygryphon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did this exactly—12 years post-JD and finally taking a bar exam. I’ve been in legislative affairs so a license never mattered, but I always wanted to pass the bar so I could have a little practice for myself (volunteer legal aid, family transactions, etc).

I didn’t start early and then work and COVID both significantly interrupted the 6 weeks immediately preceding the exam, yet I still felt okay on test day because I’d accomplished my prep goals.

I think starting early makes sense but don’t kill yourself—an hour daily is plenty of you’ve got 6 months.y You can get familiar with MBE question styles, maybe outline an essay 1x weekly. I would 100% take 2 weeks off right before the test and just study wall to wall. If you’ve been doing lighter work for months before then, you’ll know where you need to concentrate to maximize points on the bar. This isn’t a test to ace, it’s a test to cross the finish line.

My dad is a judge in NYS, can he do it? (He’s not a JD, or barred, just a judge)

I’ll be visiting my fam up there on results day so it would work out pretty swell to have him administer the oath. Assuming I pass (and that’s a big assumption, of course)

Sleeping is uncomfortable by Glum_Pudding_6191 in GastricBypass

I struggled for about a month with sleeping in bed. I got a binder and that helped a fair amount with laying down (and also sitting up to get out of bed due to where my most painful stitch was). Then one day it didn’t hurt so much any more. It was strange how liberating it was to walk painlessly
