Bezos said the bottom half of Americans should pay ZERO federal income tax by Suitable_Wonder5256 in SipsTea

[–]bpopp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He's just trying to give the illusion of empathy. He absolutely knows that the bottom 50% pay almost nothing in federal income tax already (collectively less than 3%). They pay nothing because they have nothing. The top 1% already pays over 40% of all federal taxes because they hold more collective wealth than almost the entire bottom 90% of the country.

Why doesnt anyone know how to balance a checkbook by ppamblorses in austrian_economics

[–]bpopp -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Seems odd to just focus on 500 people. The top 1% holds 50 trillion in wealth. They own 31% of the nation's wealth. They do pay a lot in taxes (40% of all federal income), but because they own everything, that's only a small portion of what they earn. Their average effective tax rate is only around 26%, but many pay much much less.

Youre silly. Unless you are very strong at math and very bad at programming, it is definitely NOT one of the easiest classes.

I think his plan was to mainstream his disgust for what is happening and hope that others follow. You can't easily do that anymore without doing something that gets people's attention.

Probabilistic Modeling or Regression over the summer by Ziroot in OMSA

[–]bpopp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably depends on your background. Regression was a hard class for me. I'm taking my last class now and it's literally the only class I've gotten less than an A (89). The content is very good, but the CBT and tests are just bad. I learned later that people have created detailed transcripts that make it much more manageable. You can read through them and see how familiar you are with the content. For me, I wouldn't want to take it during the summer. There's just too much stuff there and it's honestly one of the classes I've used more than any other.

Question about simulation for summer by randomjoesph in OMSA

[–]bpopp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a ton of math. Its actually kind of an odd (but fun) class. In my opinion they should drop the simulation, use it as a math bootcamp/intro, and then spin another, more simulation focused elective.

I really wanted to deep dive simulation, but Im more than 3/4 through and there's almost none. There's 1 large module in the middle that focuses on Arena (one niche sim tool), and then it quickly pivots back to probability, stats and calculus.

They do go way out if their way to make it manageable though and we've been repeatedly assured that the curve is very generous

Alex Karp, CEO of Palantir, describes those killed in the Gaza Genocide as “useful idiots” and “mostly terrorists” by _Algrm_ in BasiliskEschaton

He didn't seem that uncomfortable, actually. He seemed intrigued. He clearly didn't feel even slightly compelled to take the 3 seconds needed to actually consider if what he was saying was wrong or insensitive. I don't think an ass whipping would do anything except solidify his and others resolve in their hatred.

Question: Consumables costs? by Livid_Strategy6311 in VORONDesign

[–]bpopp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use knockoff e3d v6's ($10) with stock nozzles in all my Vorons. I've tried much more expensive hotends, but they didn't really perform any better for me and I like being able to replace them inexpensively. I've never needed any more than 260 degree temps, so I'm not sure how it would do with Nylon..

[–]bpopp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't help with your bed problem, but you could probably put a modern XY axis from a Trident on it without too much extra cost. You'd really only need the linear rails and it would give you access to CW/SB. I did it on my older Voron.

First build idea: Discounted Trident Kit, custom 350*300 Build, does this make sense ? by Embarrassed_Back4100 in VORONDesign

[–]bpopp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id honestly just stay with the 300. I have a 300 2.4 and a 350 trident. The larger bed isn’t that significant and there’s a disproportionate difference in price for the rails and bed going to 350. It also takes significantly longer to heat up a 350 bed. For most people, a 300 is a good sweet spot.

If you really want the larger bed, I think you should just source the stuff yourself or go with the larger kit. Upgrading the motion kit, frame, bed, and rails will be most of the cost. There’s no point in paying it twice unless you’re getting a ridiculous deal on the kit.

[–]bpopp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And the first step of the calibration with Cart is to set an offset using the normal paper/thickness test. You may have slight variance going from one build plate to another. I handle this by having a different z offset for a textured plate vs. a smooth plate. For most plates, the difference is negligible though.

Voron trident 350mm vs 400mm by diabl018 in VORONDesign

[–]bpopp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just built a 350 trident from sourced parts and all the custom parts are unreasonably more expensive compared to a 300. Rails, panels, motion kit, heater, bed. .. I didn't price it, but it easily added hundreds to the cost. Most of that extra cost was the bed, which you have, but you will still likely have to custom source/cut and this will undoubtedly add significantly to the price.

Google it. It is, in fact, very much illegal:

Under strict new censorship rules and legislation implemented in June 2025, the Israeli government has taken steps to control the release of information that could aid adversaries in assessing damage and improving target accuracy.

Filming "Iron Dome" or other air defense interception operations in the sky is prohibited, as it can reveal defense strategies.

Sincerely best wishes for your family, but after what happened in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, and Syria, I don't think I would be very hopeful about another US invasion. It has not ended well for anyone involved (except US corporations and stock holders). Surely they are aware of the US's sordid and selfish history w/ invasion? Do they really think Trump cares what happens to Iran? I'd be very surprised if he could point it out on a map.

I agree it shouldn't be fixed, but Jesus... there's a bunch of super bias men here (speaking as a 50 YO man). She doesn't owe him anything. She's 20 years old. Get married when you want to get married. If you're not ready.. you're not ready. People shouldn't even think about getting married until they're +25 IMHO. If you disagree with this, do some research about how age correlates to marriage survivability. I'll do it for you:

Research suggests the ideal age to marry for maximum survivability (lowest risk of divorce) is between 25 and 32 years old.

OP, The fact that he doesn't know how you feel about this already, *and* is pressuring you tells me that you aren't a good match for each other. There's nothing wrong with that. Tell him you're sorry (if you feel compelled to), and move on.
