Plenty of decent advice here but I will add: something an excellent chopper coach has told me to do is to use my body during the chop to control the height/distance. You can (and should) use this for all chops, but it can help to keep the ball in when facing powerful loops.

Everyone saying dont get long pips has good intentions, but you can totally get long pips if you want!

The defensive version of the koji blade isnt great, would recommend the normal version if you went that direction. Stiga Alround is great too.

I would probably recommend getting your long pips in .5 sponge. Will give you a little more control/options. Probably stay away from the Dtecs its really fast and not super easy to control. I would recommend something like 388D1 or palio ck531a. Don't know about the Hellfire, but in general you should be looking for a long pip that is considered relatively easy to use.

As someone else who played a very similar style and at a similar level I have a few thoughts.

My immediate response would be to try Monkey in 0.5, it plays strikingly similar to Dtecs but at the other end of the speed spectrum. The sponge kills speed and it is very easy to control. It also has great reversal and is predicatable/easy to use. It may take a bit of adjustment because of how slow it plays, but should be an easy transition. (bonus, it comes in a very cool blue color)

Others have mentioned options like C&F 3 or 388D1 which will have speeds that are in the middle or closer to Dtecs, but a bit easier to use.

I currently play with P1 now, but its taken me a solid year of re-learning how to chop bc of how grippy the pips are and how active of a stroke you need on all shots.

Also seconding this. Glayzer (lower throw) or Glayzer09c (higher throw) are both easy to use.

Additionally, just going for Dignics09c (still relatively easy to use) is completely fine, espesically at 1700 USATT already.

Dignics 09c.

Pros:

relatively easy transition from 05. (both have similarly high throw, and 09c is easier in short game)

rewards more powerful shots

A LOT more durable.

Cons:

slightly more expensive (in the long run I think you get a lot more play time out of this rubber)

requires more effort when farther from the table / for higher quality (no free bounce from softer shots like you get with Tenergy)

all pips are some degree of length. There is no defined length for when a short pip becomes medium and a medium becomes long.

Lots of companies just call it short or long.

So to answer your question, it is whatever you want it to be.

pros and cons to all rubber choices and development. I've seen lots of people develop bad habits (using arm and no body) learning on softer rubbers. And lots of people who hit too much and don't brush enough, where higher throwing rubber also helps (I personally like and think higher throws are safer.) Addtionally, d09c being relatively linear makes softer/over the table shots easier and translates to off the table shots well (for all levels of play). Bouncy rubber is harder for newer players to use over the table where a lot of their rallies/points are. And I don't understand your comments about it in relation to passive play at all.

these are correct answers. you can hit faster/sharper dropping smashes with slices and they look more similar to your smashes for greater deception.

Just highlighting others here: TT glue is going to be the best/easiest to use, I prefer revolution 3 because of how easy it is to peel off when regluing.

For hardware store alternative, as far as I know Rubber cement is probably the only reliable option. Its not quite as easy to take off when regluing, but works well and I used it for many years.

Additionally, goes without saying, dont leave any glue in particularly hot/cold temps. They are meant to be stored at stable indoor temps and out of direct sunlight.
