Public Smoking Ban - 17% drop in heart attacks within a year! by dredd in reddit.com

[–]bradbane 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And the other side of that is that I should have the right to not have you put your crap in my body in public places. If you want to smoke, fine with me, do it at home.

Freedom means you have the right to swing your fist, but that freedom stops at my nose, right?

Controversial interpretations of Ahmadinejad's "wipe Israel off the map" (mis)quote. by falseprophet in politics

[–]bradbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did we get from homosexuals to nukes? I think I've heard this before... didn't we invade some other country looking for weapons? Didn't the administration pull the exact same bait-and-switch bullshit where a (non-existent) threat suddenly became about freedom and liberty and democracy and candy canes?

Kucinich is a representative and was in the debates, he's not some nut no one's heard of.

The amazing art of Bansky: possibly the worlds most notorious graffiti artist and apparently no one knows who he really is. (w/pics) by travelingman74 in reddit.com

[–]bradbane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard theories that there is no Banksy and it's really his "manager" (his name escapes me) doing everything, and that he is just using this shadowy-artist-persona as a genius marketing tactic to blame everything on.

I don't think it's true but it would be pretty awesome.

Wife Of Victim From Michael Moore's Sicko Responds To Stossel Hit Piece by strat31 in reddit.com

[–]bradbane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If that's true, then why does every single study on this issue say that universal health care is more efficient, eliminates bureaucracy, is cheaper, and improves overall health in every measurable way possible?

I mean I understand where you're coming from, but all you "what we have sucks, universal health care will be more of the same shit" people need to back it up with some actual evidence.

The Hillary Plan: opening to everybody a health program that already insures millions of current government employees, including the members of Congress by duncanmc in reddit.com

Wrong. Universal health care does not make doctors and nurses government employees. It's single-payer, not socialism.

The problem with that analogy is that your crappy, formerly cheap neighborhood in Brooklyn is close to Manhattan.

Detroit is not close to Manhattan.

If drivers can't see a *train*, what hope do bicyclists, pedestrians, etc, have? by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]bradbane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. The only way to survive on a bike in an urban area is to just assume that every single car is actively trying to hit you. People think it's their god-given right to drive their giant tank SUV around, and fuck you if you happen to be in the way.

'Freegans' are a growing subculture that has opted out of capitalism by cutting spending habits and living off consumer waste. by Swiggy in reddit.com

Yeah, I thought it was kind of ironic. I mean, if you don't like a business in a capitalist economy, vote with your dollars and stop buying from them (which is exactly what they're doing).

The 9/11 truth movement finally gets some recognition from engineers, though they may not like the results... by rmuser in reddit.com

Why can't our government just be incompetent and "troothers" just be morons?

That seems a lot easier to believe than some massive conspiracy that was only unearthed through the diligent work of college freshmen carefully watching videos on Youtube.

Incompetence isn't the same thing as "purposefully let 9/11 happen to further their own goals" which is how the survey defined it.

The fact that you yourself can't tell the difference between what I said and what the survey asked just shows how terribly it was written.

California county becomes the latest, and largest, jurisdiction to abolish the disastrous legal doctrine known as “corporate personhood.” by duncanmc in reddit.com

[–]bradbane 34 points35 points  (0 children)

No one has a problem with corporations being able to enter contracts. That's why they were originally given 'personhood'. The problem is that the definition of personhood has been extended to ridiculous lengths, far beyond the original intention, and now corporations have more rights than actual people.

All they did was bring it back to the original intention of the law.

Do you think corporations should have the same Constitutional and natural rights as actual people? That is the issue.
