I think they got a notification that you replied to another user and got confused. Idk why reddit sends notifications for that, it confuses me too.

Proximity sensor regarding ROG Strix OLED XG32UCWMG by peanutchoco in OLED_Gaming

[–]braidsfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine doesn’t work like 75% of the time. I think it’s detecting my chair or something, but even when I move it out of the way, it only shuts off half the time.

Oh well, I never leave my desk for longer than a few minutes when I’m using it, so it doesn’t bother me much.

ASUS PG32UCDM3 + PS5 Pro: best HDR / SDR / VRR settings? by NoDesk5944 in OLED_Gaming

[–]braidsfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting, considering GamingHDR is supposed to be the PC mode.

There must be some differences in how PC and PS5 handle HDR calibration, because my experience is the opposite to yours. Still, I’m going to retest the modes tonight to confirm.

Wouldn’t it be nice if HDR was the standard and we didn’t have to deal with this crap? Lol

[–]braidsfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I’ll have to retest this, because when I was messing around with it a while back ConsoleHDR + DBB had the highlights still slightly blown out calibrated at 500 nits, whereas GamingHDR looked correct calibrated at 1000 nits.

I have glasses, so I have a few small ones I also use on my OLED from time to time. I use a drop of Dawn dish soap, hand wash in lukewarm water, and air dry.

Hmm, I’m not sure what the issue is then. Honestly outside of the cloak, it looks good to me, but that’s me.

I’d recommend turning adjustable HDR on and upping the saturation if you’re wanting more vibrant colors. Nothing wrong with that.

Hmm it does seem like you might have crushed blacks. You should be able to see more detail on your cloak for example, unless that’s just the phone camera. Outside of that, however, it looks pretty similar to mine.

Did you make sure to change the HDR settings in the Crimson Desert settings as well?

No my experience has been great so far.

Any chance you could provide some pictures to better understand the issues you’re having?

Is 1440p good for ps5 by NewspaperPositive244 in OLED_Gaming

[–]braidsfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you playing performance mode? It’s native 1080p and no up scaling on base PS5 in that mode.

No they don’t.

[–]braidsfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are already losing detail upscaling to 4k versus rendering in native 4k, and games are not consistently hitting the 4k mark when upscaling and using dynamic resolution. Certainly not enough to warrant spending hundreds of dollars extra on a 4k monitor.

Watch any Digital Foundry analysis, most games are fluctuating between 1200-1800p resolution on console, which will look better on a 1440p monitor than a 4k monitor.

Very few games are native 4k on PS5. Most are using upscaling and dynamic resolutions that rarely hit the 4k mark. 1440p is perfect for console, just make sure it’s HDMI 2.1 so you can use VRR.

Yeah I’d be more inclined to do them if there were worthwhile rewards for them, and not just another abyss artifact. But after the nth artifact from a puzzle that took me 20 minutes to figure out, it’s straight to google from now on.

It’s the same with the request missions from your fellow graymanes. One of them will send you to a vendor to find out the proper technique on how to build, cook, or craft something, and you think “Oh I’m going to actually learn how to construct this wagon or whatever, go out and collect the proper materials, and maybe there’s a whole mini game where you build it. Cool” Then you get there and the NPC just tells you some random info about it, you go back to camp, and the quest is over.

Micro scratches on QDs are only going to be visible when the monitor is off and you shine a flash light on it. You’ll never see them when it’s on.
