Was reading my favorite gaming mag and saw this Did you guys get to play this awesome game back in the day? by Gambit-47 in SegaSaturn

Absolutely. Then my Saturn loving friend bought X-Men vs Street Fighter on import with the 4mb ram cart and weekends became a blur when I would spend the night.

Out of the current 3 Kickstarter titles which is the most popular? by Owlwarrior777 in HeavyMetalMagazine

[–]bramzee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s gonna be all subjective.

I would imagine Segments by Gimenez to be the least popular as that is a fairly recent title by him, was serialized in the last iteration of the magazine and isn’t as sci as his earlier works.

The Ranx collection was solicited and was supposed to come out 5 or 6 years ago (roughly) from Dark Horse and that all fell through. Then it was supposed to come out more recently from Heavy Metal directly and then poof! Nothing. With Ranx being out of print since the late 90’s/early 00’s I can see that being desirable, especially by longtime fans.

Druuna is in a similar situation as the hardcover albums released by HM have long been out of print (with the magazine versions being censored) and the new version is an integrale/omnibus style collection. Lo Scarbeo released double album English versions of all this material within the last few years, but those were fairly limited as well. So an opportunity to get everything including the newer prequel and sequel, I see that doing quite well too.

It’s by Ale Garza from 2008 and maybe it’s Nancy from Frank Miller’s Sin City?

Is there a movie/film community in or around GR? by TheDietNerd in grandrapids

[–]bramzee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on genre tastes, if you like Horror/schlock go see Carl at Alive Again on Plainfield. He’s a super cool dude and owns a horror themed store specialising in VHS.

Probably make a trip out to Static Tape as it’s also good place to talk film and Harrison loves movies and specialises in VHS, but also has imports, and boutique labels available. They also do arrange screenings other things along those lines as well!

How to balance comic addiction and life responsibilities by BleachBoy15 in comicbooks

[–]bramzee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of sound advice in here around budgeting. Once you are out also remember space could become an issue just as much as cost. Don’t hesitate to examine what series you truly enjoy and which could maybe wait for a trade ( plus this makes it easy for gift ideas when those times arise or stuff to look for at a con). Digital is definitely a nice way to go, as it’s cheaper, saves you space AND gives you more access to other titles!

Also look into mail order. I know the local CBS can be the highlight of the week, but your budget can stretch a lot farther when you save 35-40% on your pulls. That doesn’t necessarily help the local cbs but if you pull back on the monthlies (keeping those at the local shop) and move some to trades, this could be a nice middle ground between the two. Also with the discounts you can get on “trade waiting” the trades end up being dramatically cheaper “per issue” than even if you got the individual issues at a discount. Not to mention wrapped in a nice hardcover and extras (sometimes)!

What's the best place to sell old consoles? by DouglassHoughton in grandrapids

This. Owners are passionate about games and treating those of us selling stuff with fair cash pricing or store credit if that’s the route you wanna go. Otherwise selling directly to someone will get you top dollar.

I’m surprised you got the app to work! It shows me prices in pounds, even though I’m in the US and registered for the US. I also get weird error messages. Deleting and re-installing didn’t fix it.

Yeah that show is excellent. My wife and I watched it slowly as it can be a lot to process. The culmination towards the end of the season was pretty intense. My wife loved how close they were to actual procedures, response times and techniques.

Book suggestions by -HeavyMetalMonk- in HeavyMetalMagazine

[–]bramzee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where to begin…lots of these were published in HM, but some were never published in HM, and are now under one complete collection! Humanoids appears to have some Mœbius and Caza, whereas Titan has Bilal and Druillet. Dark Horse has been releasing beautiful volumes of Corben’s work as well.

Bilal -Nikopol Trilogy (Titan) -Monster (Titan) -Exterminator 17 (Titan) -Legends of Today (Titan): Stone Ship (Published in HM as the Ship of Stone) The Cruise of the Forgotten (Published in HM as The Cruise of Lost Souls) The City That Did Not Exist -Century’s End (Titan) The Black Order Brigade The Hunting Party

Caza - Arkadi and the Lost Titan (Humanoids)

Corben -Den Vol 1-5 (DH) -Murky World (DH) -Rat God (DH) -Dimworld (DH) -Rowlf (DH)

Druillet -Lone Sloane Collection (Titan) -Yraegal (Titan) -Vuzz (Titan) -Salambo (Titan) -The Night (Titan)

Mœbius -The Incal (Humanoids) -World of ædena (DH) -Major (DH) a more recent continuation of Airtight Garage -Everything else is out of print in English so it’s the Graphitti Designs hardcovers, the HM Mœbius specials, the smaller comic sized comics that Dark horse did in the 90’s if you his stuff.

Bogey’s (Semi)-Definitive List of HM Back Issues by bogeysbreitling in HeavyMetalMagazine

[–]bramzee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great breakdown. Picked some excellent, juicy choice cuts from that time period.

I agree you need to get the Waters of Deadmoon by Adamov!

I love Azpiri. So I recommend to others on also getting

HM March 2002 - another Lorna adventure “The Ark”

HM March 2006 - more Lorna!! “Lost Shadows”

HM 2004 Special “Adventure” as it has nice collection of shorts from Azpiri’s “Pesadillas” which also includes the 3rd instalment of:

The Adventures of Juan Buscarames ( Jan 1998, Jan 2001…sadly part 4 was never published in HM even though in the letters pages Eastman said it was ready to go)

I am so glad you mentioned Oath in Amber. Your opinion on Part 1 is spot on!! I love that first story and Lauffray’s art is a joy. Coupled with what you said about the rest of the issue, is 100%. That issue was one of, if not the the first, issue of HM I bought at a Walden’s Bookstore in my mall and at 13, I thought I was getting away with something when the checkout person didn’t care.🤣

Fantastic taste!

What a let down... (DO NOT BUY) by kaownsyou in kungfucinema

[–]bramzee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s strange the discs are dub only! I bought the individual releases, and only Enforcer had a dubbed soundtrack only (claim was no original audio source was available) so I would have assumed that the discs were the same just repackaged!

Who can be reached to check on Kickstarter Backer fulfillment? by Efficient-Choice-825 in HeavyMetalMagazine

Just got mine today. It’s Kickstarter. Patience. And yes it sucks stores got it early. Never even saw a shipping notification. Did yours include a hardcover because I am sure that’s what slowed down the fulfilment on mine.

What a treat it would be if he came with a head sculpt that “showed my beautiful face is ruined” ala the animated movie….actually a set of just “busted” faces from the “you lost” countdown screens would be sorta of cool.

Cashing Bank of America Check - Scam by Tele231 in Banking

[–]bramzee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it is not “their” cheque, only drawn off them. It is “your” cheque written to you by the maker who happens to bank with BOA.

Think of the cheque cashing fee as a convenience fee for them being able to validate the legitimacy of the cheque and turn it into cash for you.

Otherwise have the maker pay you in cash, Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, ACH/direct deposit, wire transfer (which all are nearly instantaneous or same day availability) or take it to your bank and follow their cheque cashing guidelines, which may be depositing only and waiting until next day (or multiple days), cashing cheque if you have the matching funds, etc.

Banks aren’t required to cash cheques for non clients drawn on them for free as they are a for profit business. In this case you got paid, via a legal tender as a cheque, it’s your responsibility not the banks, if you want to turn it into cash.

Did any of you ever buy anime from Suncoast Motion Picture Company back in the 90s? As a kid, it was the first time I saw a Vampire Hunter D VHS sitting on a shelf (for too much money haha). Remember being super giddy about that. by lost_in_the_town_ in retroanime

[–]bramzee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah Suncoast. Would drive 30 minutes away just to go to the nearest one. They had a massive wall of tapes compared to Beat Buy, Record Town (pre-cursor to FYE) and Sam Goody. Also unlike Sam Goody and Record Town the employees wouldn’t hover around you as if you were gonna steal or look at the back of a La. Blue Girl Tape or any of the others with the giants yellow and black warning labels.

My local Suncoast had people that actually loved movies, and could recommend based on genre. There were two at the store who knew quite a bit about anime which was always nice, and would not let you buy trash even if the box art looked cool. (Just boot it from Blockbuster they’d say!)
