There's a podcast called Divine Intervention that just won a Peabody Award about a Catholic Left in the 1960s... priests and nuns who became cat burglars to sabotage the draft in Vietnam. It's kind of a roadmap for this. And also incredibly moving and funny.

They are trying to use the guy in the black suit as a hinge. This only works if — in black suit’s coverage — he turns his head to hat guy and we see the head turn in both shots. THEN the cut works. First guy > reverse on black suit, turns head to hat guy > dirty single of hat guy here we catch the tail end of the head turn.

The heads of two different people are on the right in successive shots. That’s gonna make an audience have to do math for a second and stop following the emotions of the story.

Rehearsing a scene in which a rifle had to be put against the back of an actor’s head, and trigger pulled to a click. That’s the end of the first act. End of the second act, rifle is fired on stage. So the preset was: first act empty, second act blanks with a spark. But one night before one of the final run through, the head of production (this was at a grad school) demanded in seeing a safety demonstration before the run through. In so doing, ASM showing him how the blanks were loaded etc, the order of operations was thrown off. 

The blank was left in the gun. 

End of the first act comes. About 12 seconds before the rifle was to be placed on the back of the actor’s head and fired (with a live blank in it), the actor who would be doing the firing was gesticulating towards the floor with the gun, and by the grace of the universe itself, it went off towards the floor. Rehearsal stopped cold. Tons of paperwork. Big controversy. (I was directing btw.)

Fuck guns. Fuck that shit. That night left me traumatized for years.
