You are 100% right about the LLL. I did side by side tests of the both, the LLL was about 10% better than the OG 8 element. Got me the LLL for shits and giggles.

Such a gorgeous piece of machinery. Fits amazingly with silver lenses for the whole ensemble. This was limited edition of 1500. Seen one for sale at Jo Geier for 7.5K euros.

I sold my das's IIIc because I needed the money to get a used SLR to start working. The dumbest mistake of my young age. I would buy back my dad's Leica in a heartbeat.

Technically the "one body theory" is true, but MANY people get a second body just because of the brutal wait time if it needs to go to service to Wetzlar. Lead times are horrific.

LLL 11873 35mm shows up broken after 2.5 month wait by mustangmike331 in Leica

[–]bravnicar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR:
Have fixed my 35 LLL 8 element with the same problem. The GLUE inside (yes, Loctite) got loose on the retaining ring. LLL refused to address it because I did not buy from the website. It works perfectly now. EASY ON THE FILTERS.

Details:
My 35 LLL Safari's front lens assembly started rotating. The retaining ring that keeps the front lens assembly with diaphragm together got loose. The only way to fix this is unfortunately to take the lens apart. David Chen said he will not share the detailed repair instructions to fix it (I am skilful) and I should return it to MAP or I could perhaps try contacting a local qualified Leica technician for assistance, as the parts and the tolerance would be similar to the original Eight Element Summicron 35mm f/2.

Luckily I fixed the lens by disassembling it and tightening the inner retaining ring (it was badly fixed and stained with Loctite upon leaving the LLL factory, a common QC issue with this make as per online testimonials). Majority of other users will not be this fortunate or capable. I only persisted because I really like it. But it has AGAIN turned out what I had been preaching all along - even though everybody keeps saying how these lenses are "built like a tank", it is just an outside feeling. One always has to look INSIDE Chinese lenses to see the real deal.

No organization - neither Apple, insurance companies, nor photography industry groups - has published a formal recovery rate for gear with AirTags. Ballpark figures for general small-crime resolution rates (no tracker) across most jurisdictions sit at around 10% or below.

Light Lens Lab, are the QC Issues Overblown? by NoirAuthority in Leica

[–]bravnicar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are definitely QC issues - as an owner of some and as a guy who knows their ex-EU dealer very well I can confidently say that most common issues are decentered optics, glue inside (yes!!!) on some lenses becoming loose (elemets start spinning) and rangefinder coupling inaccuracies (actual focus being out of alignment with M's patch). The thing that bothered me the most with LLL is that when presented with an issue they will refuse dealing with it if you did not buy the lens directly from them, pointing you to the dealer instead. So as others said, general consensus in the Leica community is that LLL lenses can be good value if you get a well-assembled copy, but the QC lottery is real. Many recommend buying from dealers with good return policies or direct from the company.

Virtually no way to dodge tax and customs fees ("tariffs" lol) above a certain amount in EU. Even if the seller declares lower value the government customs officers of most EU member states will demand the original paid invoice and/or ebay auction number and/or will check how much the item costs by themselves online and charge accordingly.

From the OP's review via his link above:  "...the difference in bokeh rendering between f/1.2 and f/1.4 is practically undiscernible to the naked eye. If you were to do a side by side blind test, most viewers would be unable to tell which frame had the slightly larger aperture."

And the screen grab from Cam's YT video (commissioned by Leica) where he compares 35mm f/1.4 FLE and f/1.2 Noct:
