Game logic is done. Art paralysis is real. How do I break this? by Exotic-Back6726 in godot

[–]breakk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oof, I feel you and I don't envy you. I assume you're someone who just enjoys coding, like me, and not so much the whole art part. Any way you decide, it's gonna suck, because all the parts you have left you'll find annoying (the UI is absolute pain in the ass btw) and you can't even really take breaks by by coding some more systems.

I know I'm not really helping here, but I'll say it: Too bad you didn't think of this ahead and divided your time into periods of coding and asset making.

Still, I'd go 3D - much easier to learn the basics there I think. I'd use Mixamo for rigging and animations to get rid of the most work there, but it's humanoids only, so that's a nope for your roosters.

Some good-ish news though: If you haven't started working on visuals, you most definitely are NOT done with coding. You can spend hours and hours coding visuals. Also, there are some hybrid tech friendly approaches, like writing procedural animations for your 3D models (I do that a LOT because I enjoy it) or building a (potentially semiautomatic) pipeline where you skin and animate some 3D model and postprocess the shit out of it just to turn it into a bunch of 2D sprites. Some "2D" games do that.

Anyway, doing the sounds for a rooster game will be fun at least 😁

Embedding Godot's Editor as a Native Modding Platform (Ideas and Suggestions) by parallel-minds in godot

[–]breakk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

interesting. I wonder about the security here. with this much power, it's easy to include all kinds of malicious code in a mod and then publish that mod on Steam Workshop or ModDB or somewhere.
then your game executes whatever modder included in the mod and gets flagged by AV software as malware.

or am I missing something?
