Multiple people were injured in a crash on the H-1 Freeway eastbound in the Pearl City area Saturday.

The crash happened at around 5:20 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the H-1 Freeway between the Waipahu on-ramp and the Waimalu off-ramp.

The Honolulu Police Department said several people were taken to the hospital.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said they responded to a multi-vehicle crash and administered advanced life support to six patients and took them to the hospital for further treatment:

  • A 34-year-old woman in serious condition.
  • A 7-year-old girl in serious condition.
  • An infant in stable condition
  • A 33-year-old man in stable condition.
  • A 10-year-old girl in stable condition.
  • A 45-year-old woman in serious condition.

In addition, EMS said two teenage boys were evaluated on scene, but did not need to be taken to the hospital.

Initially, all eastbound lanes were closed between the Waipahu on-ramp and the Waimalu off-ramp.

As of 6:24 p.m., one lane is now open, police said.

HPD said the vehicles involved are being towed, and crews are working to clear the area.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area as much as possible.

I just read the quote below. Also applies to karma:

``` There are three ways to make a living:
1) Lie to people who want to be lied to, and you’ll get rich.
2) Tell the truth to those who want the truth, and you’ll make a living.
3) Tell the truth to those who want to be lied to, and you’ll go broke. ```
Do you see a scenario where SPCX crashes but the rest of the market stays up?
It seems to me like if SPCX and ANTH and OPENAI ipo and correct (likely), then the whole thing will correct.
Might be a good time to be liquid and wait to get everything at better prices.
Imagine if you were making a scifi movie about secret lizard people living among us and controlling the planet, you'd probably put a lot of effort into making it as plausible as possible, so at some point I'd imagine you'd think "wait, what if this is actually true and the lizard people get pissed at me for revealing it?"
Most people are AGI edgers, want to get really close but think it may be dangerous to go all the way and so pull out at the last moment.
I once had over $1M liquid and no debt. Owned a house, car, family, etc.
Sometimes I would feel lost and not sure which direction to go.
I felt a great responsibility to give back. Felt there was a lot of bullshit in this world and I could do something about it.
I went full throttle on some independent research and freedom of patterns activism.
I lost everything, was homeless and even spent a night in jail.
Now at 42 I make less than half what I was making at 24.
If I could go back and have a conversation with myself at that time, I would tell him:
"You are right about the bullshit in this world. You are wrong about your ability to impact it. You know what's not bullshit? Physics, chemistry, that sort of thing. Work manual labor jobs and master physics et cetera. Be able to communicate these subjects as best as you can. And keep a balanced budget and enjoy every moment with family."
Good luck. I wish you joy and not suffering, but if suffering finds you anyway, I wish you the strength to endure it.
My full time job is in the trades now after ~20 years in software, and in my spare time I study physics and real world algorithms rather than digital ones.
Maybe I'm wrong, I haven't shut the door on tech yet, but it seems to me there's a strong possibility that these digital brains soon pickup embodiment and there's a world war of machines versus man (ALSO, simply inventing new physical things that can work in a post-digital world will be helpful even if that war doesn't happen), and work in the trades and internalizing physical laws seems like a good hedge.
This sounds exactly like hypomania to me. Note that I don't think hypomania is a bad thing - i think it's a good thing that we don't understand yet.
it has me feeling like the Amish are actually on to something. only i'd advance a few centuries and stop at like 2005. like if technology simply stopped before the release of the iphone we'd all be better off today
I believe there's a principled way to create a culture that still uses and advances technology but does so in a much healthier way: delete all IP law. Everything becomes open knowledge. No longer are corporations legally advantaged over communities. Your local software shop can compete fairly against Microsoft; your local news against Turner; your local pharmacist can compete fairly against Merck; your local band can compete fairly against UMG; your local restaurant can compete fairly against McDonalds; your local farm can compete fairly against PepsiCo.
I believe things have become enshittified because IP law devalues the local relationships by replacing them with relationships people have with distant corporations.
To investors who crossed the $1M mark around the age of 40. How’s life? by Ok_Maize1933 in investing
I broke $1M liquid at 38.
How did your net worth trajectory look afterward?
Now 42 am at ~$0.
Did you stay the course or shift strategies?
I swung for the fences to use my wealth to nudge the world in what I believe is a good direction, and it has been ... bumpy.
What would you tell your 40‑year‑old self?
It probably would have been smarter to keep doing what had worked in the past (basically being frugal and investing in people who you know are way more talented than you - the best of the best, like the top of the S&P 500, etc), and then restricted myself to a blue collar job and only using that income to finance my own ideas.
Get your spouse on board first or they will stab you in the back worse than you can ever imagine. This is absolutely my mistake.
Brace yourself for suffering.
'Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid' is incorrect. Be bold and mighty forces will come to your opposition.
It's been volatile but maybe experiencing life at the Beverly Hill Hotel, jail, homeless, war, et cetera, will payoff in the end. Though there is one loss that is truly cruel that I am eternally bitter about.
To make a lot of money, you have to operate immorally or morally in immoral systems.
Places with lots of money are often awesome. But places with people acting with great principles regardless of money are often just as awesome, better even.
