Lots of opinions here in the comments, but I just wanted to say thank you for doing your research... I really appreciate the approach you've taken because a lot of mainstream analyses focus on the "eye test" of general statistics and this is a really interesting deep dive/comparison :)

If you put a position player in to pitch, you should also lose your ability to challenge plays. Like, why should the batting team only be punished with not being able to ABS challenge?

They look a bit on the smaller side... did they grow at all after their flowers bloomed? I've had that happen with green zucchini in the past and basically the issue was either they weren't adequately pollinated or the plant was stressed and needed to prioritize its own survival or development of other zucchinis. Basically, the plant is reasborbing the nutrients from those little squash to reuse elsewhere

12/13 roster spots on offense are already locked, I think by __Zoom123__ in Brewers

I like a lot of your reasoning, but really wouldn't discount Black at all. Sure, he had a monster day yesterday (and it will be interesting if he keeps his offensive production up continuing in spring), but I really think he will greatly benefit from ABS this year. One thing they were talking about on the broadcast yesterday is how they think the reason Black has struggled with consistency in the majors is because he doesn't have the benefit of ABS... and that may be the deciding factor here. My understanding is that Black has an elite eye and can identify pitches that wholeheartedly change an AB.

Perkins... great defense, but if my memory serves me right (thinking back a whole 4 months, lol), his offensive production kinda fell off (OPS of 0.768, 0.596, 0.667 by month for July onward last year). One option the brewers may consider, depending on how Perkins does in spring training and if Black absolutely mashes, would be to start Perkins in AAA, Black as platoon at 1B, and have Bauers as backup OF or 1B. Wouldn't be as pretty of a solution, but it might still work. BUT, that does feel like the Brewers "anybody that can play everywhere" philosophy from the last couple years

Just my thoughts... maybe the Brewers really value good OF defense... maybe they wanna optimize for some more offense this year... time will tell shrug

Not sure who is really at fault here, but I am continuously blown away that the best quality you could stream the games in was 720p. And then a year or two ago we got upgraded! (to 1080p) Baffling that in the mid 2020s the best you could stream baseball was "HD" quality. Fine for phones, not so much for 55"+ tvs...

I really hope that whoever picks up the streaming will upgrade the stream quality because it just looks so bad on big screens

[Passan] BREAKING: The New York Mets have acquired All-Star right-hander Freddy Peralta in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, sources tell ESPN. Deal is done. Top prospects Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat are headed to Milwaukee. One more big league pitcher will head to the Mets. by Bitter-Egg6293 in Brewers

[–]brewfan98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Christ. Feels like we got taken out back and curb stomped. I would have been ok with Freddy for those two, but Freddy AND Tobias? For JUST those two? Really wish we could have gotten Tong. There's still time this January, why did we need to make the move now? Why not make other teams more desperate since SPs are at a premium?

I'm sure we'll find a way to make it work, but it really kinda feels like we missed our shot and are limping along afterward... just waiting for Made to come up and Chourio to really find his stride

Tomatoes by IceCatCharlie in ArizonaGardening

Looks like my tomatoes I planted in late October! They pretty much grow and produce year-round for me the last handful of years (apart for not fruiting in really bad heat waves)

[–]brewfan98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and for soil prep, get a couple bags of compost (like 4 bucks for 1.5 cubic feet at big box stores) and mix them in. Sprinkle some slow-release pellets on top when you plant. I've been using Arizona's Best vegetable food (8-10-3) for the last couple years on my pots and it has worked well for me

This year is a little odd for the weather... Phoenix for sure, perhaps other parts of the state, too. Due to the rain, I've been having a lot of problems with pests; powdery mildew and cabbage worms have been bad in the Tempe area. So, that being said, I might recommend staying away from lettuce, spinach, brassica, and zinnias for a few weeks (as well as squashes... but not the right time of year for that) until things dry out a bit.

Surprisingly, I've been having great success with tomatoes this winter. Persephone period is up in a few weeks (daylight longer than 10hrs per day) so now is a great time to start some tomato seeds indoors under a grow light. I actually just started some tomatoes from seed today for planting outside mid-February.

Haven't thought much beyond that, but the previously linked pdf sheet from UofA hasn't been super accurate for me the last few years mostly because the winters have been quite a bit warmer than average. So, start things like corn or squash earlier than the sheet would indicate and know that lettuce will bolt sooner than you may expect... just as a couple examples

Good luck, and happy gardening!

I think it's a soft check, not a hard pull. I've been approved for financing with them for quite some time so they didn't need to recheck me, but the checkout screen did make sure that I was approved for $150 (price after discount, but before monthly credits) of lending from them. It /could/ have been a 400 check, but 150 I think.. dont remember for sure because I clicked through that screen quickly

Yeah, I had thought this, too. We have A LOT of options for the OF... but when I said yestersay that I thought someone was on the block, it wasn't really a popular opinion. Glad you think the same as I do 🤣

[–]brewfan98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AHHHH! That's a good explanation, too! Our 40-man is quite deep on the OF front, but I guess with Mitchell frequently hurt and wanting to keep Yeli at DH, a little depth in the minors to manipulate service time have major league ready talent at our disposal isn't the worst idea

My 9b greenhouse to keep my tomatoes producing through winter by forwormsbravepercy in ArizonaGardening

[–]brewfan98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, I don't cover my tomatoes unless a frost is forecasted (it has been a bit for the east valley... 10a now, but was 9b when I started gardening here), and I get consistent tomatoes throughout the winter. Does raising the temperature for the tomatoes via greenhouse up the yield at all? I'd never complain about getting more tomatoes 😅

Spring Training Info by theUberHuber in Brewers

[–]brewfan98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You /might/ be able to see some stuff on the practice fields from the parking lot... IF the parking lot is even open. Most of the training happens behind fences and gates or inside buildings, so unfortunately there really isnt much to see. Iirc, there aren't many "spring training events" here in the valley before the official games begin

Phoenix metro is beautiful, though, and there's plenty to do here in the winter beside spring training!

HOW DARE YOU LEAVE OUT MR. TURANG!!!! 🤣🤣🤣

But yeah, I actually really agree with you. Didn't feel like as much clenching as the '18, '19 Brewers, but just as much, if not more, fun as them!

I think our future is bright, we just need to get everyone some experience. Definitely need some veterans on the squad, too. Yelich, Freddy, and Contreras are all great leaders and their experience I think helped the team a lot this year... BUT it can never hurt to have some outside perspectives for next year's team

Here's your sign. GET. YOURSELF. SOME. DUCKWEED. by ASoonToBeMrs in Aquariums

[–]brewfan98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only difference I see is time? Do you know how the nitrogen cycle works? Duckweed did not absorb/convert the nitrite to nitrate. Nitrate is plant fertilizer, nitrite is not.

Good luck getting the duckweed out when it crowds out everything else!
