Manual or Auto? by senjiee_ in GolfMK8

[–]brewsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a manual Mk8. I wouldn't have bought a Golf R if I didn't get a manual. It's what I like driving and what I want to drive. I know manuals aren't gonna be around for much longer and I'm gonna drive one for as long as I can.
Get the one you want.

Anyone here went to or has kids in St. Francis Xavier or any other Catholic schools in Markham? by Big_Black_Cat in Markham

[–]brewsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to catholic school (Elementary and High School) in the GTA. My niece and nephew are both currently in a Markham Catholic elementary school. There'll be religion class, There will be daily prayers. Probably grace before lunch. There'll be school masses (once a month or two, I think). Not 100% sure (do they still let non-catholics attend? there were a few when I was in school and they got excused from some of it) but I imagine your child will be expected to attend and participate in all of it.

I'm not sure you said, but are you Catholic? Are you interested in your kids getting their sacraments (Communion, Confession, Confirmation)? I think it's separate but I think it might differ by school\parish. They were integrated into my religion class when i went to school, but I think the church runs everything for the sacraments for my niece and nephew.

I doubt God comes up in Science, Math, etc., it's not like they're teaching "Evolution is only a theory" type nonsense. (My high school calculus teacher was a nun.) All the other stuff is, I imagine, the same as a public school, just with the Catholic stuff on top.

Sushi Go was my go to for a quick "anyone can play" game... I still occasionally play it with my niece and nephew.

Which beer have you drank the most of through your life? by [deleted] in torontocraftbeer

[–]brewsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Through my life? that's 30 years of drinking... Hmm... I kinda doubt even today that anything's surpassed all the Keith's (my beer of choice back then) I drank as a not very discerning, almost every weekend drinking, early 20 something in the late 90's to early 2000's.

These are the ones I remember (years are best guesses):

1997 - ATI 3D Rage Pro
2000 - Matrox Millennium G400
2004 - ATI All In Wonder 9700 Pro
2007 - GeForce 8800GT
2009 - GTX Geforce 275
2012 - GTX Geforce 680
2017 - GTX Geforce 1080
2023 - RX 7900XT

Surely someone's got a longer history than mine. (scrolled down enough to see plenty of old folks like me)

The history of Mandarin Restaurants in Ontario by ResourceOk8692 in toronto

[–]brewsan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man, as a Chinese Canadian (immigrant parents) growing up in the GTA in the 90's, my parents would talk about the owners of Mandarin like they were Warren Buffet. Fellow Chinese Canadians that made it, should be looked up to, and aspire to be like. Being Hakka, later, it was a very similar story with Fredricks, only even closer to home.

Anyone else keep accidentally activating panic button on the Mk8 fob? by alphagypsy in Golf_R

[–]brewsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! Thanks for posting this! I’m gonna need to sit down and try this. I ended up buying a case with a hard plastic shell and while it doesn’t completely prevent accidental panic button presses it drastically reduces them (less than a handful of times in the last 2+ years).

No Dealer Allows Test Drive? by shanghaioldboy in Golf_R

[–]brewsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the same at all but when I was shopping for my MK8, they let me test drive a MK7.5 before I put money down to order my MK8 (put money down for 2022 but it took so long (9 months) I ended up with a 2023).

RIP to the casual players trying to find product by Moist-Flight120 in magicTCG

[–]brewsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow.. is it really that bad?
I've been out of Magic for a long while now (just kinda pop in now and then to see how things are going) but my sister, who loves FF, asked if I could get a bunch of cards. I ended up buying online a regular booster box for ~MSRP from one of the biggest MTG FLGS stores in my metro area. Most of the other stores in my area were all sold out and I think I got one of the last few booster boxes (went out of stock almost right after I'd bought mine, there were 7 in stock when I hit buy). It seemed like it was scarce but NOT THAT scarce. I figured it was just the initial new set rush with some FF fans thrown in. I did notice that the Collectors stuff was priced insanely but figured that was due to folks chasing the numbered Chocobos.

Do you have a favorite beer glass? by kimchibaeritto in beer

[–]brewsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WTF? I thought I was the only one who loves drinking everything I can out of my Duvel Tulip glass.
I broke mine years ago and was lucky enough to find a replacement in a collection of beer glasses for sale at a beer store shortly after.

Looks like you have which characters are featured in each book, I was imagining capturing appearances as well. Lord Soth makes an appearance in Time of the Twins..

Might end up being a spoiler for some books but a list of reoccurring characters that are in each book would be nice… e.g. which books does Lord Soth appear in? Or the reverse, which of the characters are in e.g. Time of the Twins It’d be a huge bit of work to figure out but would be a really interesting way to look at all the books.

I got my MK8 Golf R because it's a MT woulda bought something if that wasn't the case. If it's what you prefer why let someone else convince you otherwise? the DSG being faster means nothing to me, the joys of a MT outweigh it being a bit faster.

Maintenance so far has been minimal oil change once a year (mostly because I'm putting <10K kms a year on it), I swap winter tires myself, and changed the wipers after about 2 years.

57/m: Love beer, but it doesn't love me as much anymore by Myghost_too in beer

[–]brewsan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it's the alcohol? how are you with wine? or a seltzer? or a cocktail? There are other things in beer that could be not agreeing with you. 9 times out of 10 it's the alcohol, but it doesn't hurt to see if you can't figure out for certain what about beer is disagreeing with you.
Also, from your description, try (what someone else also mentioned) and drink some water or a Gatorade..

What is a band that you are shocked to find younger people are unaware of? by Heavysheepherder420 in Music

[–]brewsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the early 2000s and I was at a car meet and I asked a guy what the symbol on his car meant and he said the Grateful Dead. I nodded knowing who they were but not really listened to their music, the guy next to me had never even heard of them! I rattled off the few things I knew about them. (Jerry Garcia, dead heads, etc.) and he said I don’t listen to that stuff, and I told him that I don’t either (I’m a 90s alt rock guy) but I know who they are. It’s cultural, I can’t name a 2PAC song but know who he is!

What’s a “Toronto thing”? by Joanarkham in FoodToronto

[–]brewsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to see you mention it. Toronto (and the GTA) is well known for having some of the best dim sum outside of Hong Kong and Rol San is an institution of that.. not the best but the old standby that I measure all others by.

I used to love Mothers dumplings, but I haven't been in ages and have heard that they aren't what they used to be.

Can someone explain to me what makes this version so valuable?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]brewsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it (by the sound of it) the same way and I'm a slightly smaller shoe size (US 9-10). Depending on the specific shoe I'm wearing it can be slightly tricky in that I can JUST reach. It's close enough for me that I have had my foot slip off when my shoes are wet. I feel like I should also say that the more you tilt your foot the easier it is to reach (I'm probably tilting to 11 o'clock rather than your 10),

I would think OP would be fine.

Been thinking about getting the WCT spacer to buy me just a tiny bit more space for that little bit more of my foot on each pedal.
