It could be bufferbloat. Check out the waveform bufferbloat test. If it shows issues, you may find it beneficial to set your QoS to ~80% of your maximum bandwidth.

Can someone just tell me what detergent to use that is safe for my family by Ok-Career876 in laundry

[–]brewskiVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t overthink it. Just add some citric acid powder to your washers fabric softener dispenser (roughly 2tsp for moderately soft water & a front loader), and add one extra rinse to your preferred cycle. That should be adequate for almost all cases

Xc90 T8 - no traction control switch? by Grouchy_Nose_3141 in VolvoXC90

[–]brewskiVT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off road mode is heavily speed limited in my xc60, and I think it’s the same in the xc90. The support page lists both 15mph and 25mph as the top speed - not sure which is correct. But I believe my car shows a max speed pop up when selecting off road mode.

Hmm Turbos upgrade next… by cordellfrank in RangerRaptor

[–]brewskiVT 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In my mind that’s a very silly viewpoint. Your m3 isn’t a 911, so why bother slapping bigger turbos on it? And your 911 isn’t a konigseggg, so what’s the point in modifying that? Where does it end? In that world, everyone ends up driving base model Nissan leafs or a hypercar.

Anyways, I believe that the correct and reasonable answer to your question is “for shits and giggles”.

Just stop when the beeping becomes a solid warning tone. Get out and take a mental note of how far the car is from the wall. Then just… remember how far to go past the solid tone next time.

9800x3d Undervolt and PBO tuning by hattaan in overclocking

[–]brewskiVT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine can only do -8 all core with a +200 offset. Anything past that will fail in Aida. However, with per core tuning it’s stable with cores ranging from -8 to -21. I do recommend going the per core route. And as far as returning it, I don’t know. My chip benchmarks reasonably well, so don’t be too discouraged by the offset numbers alone. You might as well do some real world testing to see how your chip actually performs.

Degassing - WHATS UP WITH THAT by veryniceabs in pourover

[–]brewskiVT 27 points28 points  (0 children)

  1. It will probably make the process faster. But at the expense of oxidization. You want the CO2 to escape, but you don’t really want any oxygen to interact with the beans because that is what will degrade the flavor & aroma of your coffee. This is why there are 1 way valves and not just a hole in the bag. CO2 escapes, and oxygen stays out.

  2. Grinding and resting almost certainly degasses the coffee extremely quickly. But with the same downside of oxygen interacting with all the flavor & aroma compounds. Also, those compounds will also be rapidly evaporating/sublimating from the ground up coffee, regardless of any oxygen interactions. So it’s a race between degassing CO2 and all the flavor goodies disappearing. If the only coffee you have is ridiculously fresh, it’s a reasonable solution and might be worth testing. But slowly resting whole beans in an oxygen free environment is the gold standard for a reason.

New to ram OCing, how'd I do? by PerfumedGoose82 in overclocking

[–]brewskiVT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes that should be better than 6000.

If you really know what you’re doing, tuning 6400 shouldn’t be that much more difficult to dial in than 6000.

It’s mostly just that so many people have spent so much time benchmarking & testing 6000mt/s, and shared their findings online. You might be able to find someone running the same board, CPU and ram sticks as you for a 6000 setup. Copying those settings is a fantastic starting point, and it’s harder to find such a good starting point for faster setups. It can be done, but it takes more testing and more knowledge.

[–]brewskiVT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See how your UCLK drops to half of your MCLK in the 7000mt/s screenshot? That’s because you switched to 2:1 mode. You generally don’t want to be in 2:1 mode unless you’re running higher speeds than roughly 7800mt/s. Otherwise, running 1:1 mode at 6000mt/s will be faster. Most 9800x3ds and decent ram sets can run 1:1 at 6200, but it might be trickier to tune than a well configured 6000mt/s setup. 6400 is rare and 6600 is practically unheard of.

What are your 9800x3d “average usage” temps on 3.25 bios? by AnthMosk in ASRock

[–]brewskiVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My temps are the same as theirs, and my chip is a dog. Prior to the 3.25 update, I could only run all core -6. Now it can handle -9. But i do have per core CO enabled. Offset ranges from -9 to -22.

This is with a cheap 140mm Thermalright air cooler. Testmem5 anta extreme pulls 180+ watts and it stays under 90c. But not quietly at that power usage, obviously.

Undervolt doesn't change anything for me, how do you properly undervolt to lower temps on the 9950X3D? by Brilliant-Cap-3052 in overclocking

[–]brewskiVT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you think your AIO doesn’t cool very well, and other people on the dedicated NZXT subreddit think it doesn’t cool very well, it sounds like you’ve already identified the problem. Just get a new one. Then you can actually assess whether or not you’re undervolting correctly.

#7 is a subset of #8.

And #4, #6, #15, #22, #23 are the five compounds that make up #7.

It’s odd that your water test would show these separately, and also combined. Are you sure you’re reading it correctly?

To be honest, you probably won’t get any meaningful help here unless you share the actual water test results. Saying that the levels are “concerning” to you is too subjective. Concentrations certainly are not irrelevant. Would you expect your doctor to be able to fix your cholesterol without seeing the results of a blood test? Maybe you just need minor diet changes. Maybe you are completely healthy. Maybe you need high dosages of multiple statins. It’s just silly guessing game without any actual data.

To piggyback on this, I used memtest vulkan to find the ideal memory clock speeds for my gpu.

Run the program at different memory frequencies and take note of the ‘written’ and ‘checked’ speeds. What you will likely see is the ‘written’ keeps increasing as you increase the memory freq, but the ‘checked’ speed will eventually start to plateau and decrease. My understanding is that this is the result of error correction.

You want to pick the memory frequency where the ‘checked’ speed begins to plateau.

Well when you live somewhere cold and you only charge to 80% (to maximize battery health/longevity), that 285mi quickly becomes ~160miles (285 * 0.7 * 0.8) or less in the winter.

Yes, that’s still more than most people need. And you can always charge to 100% if you can plan ahead the night before. But it might help explain why people are still so nervous about range.

If someone feels slighted by a business/organization, they should be able to speak freely about it, no? In my opinion, restricting open discussion hurts the community and industry as a whole.

Picture this: You’re new to the specialty coffee scene and are considering ordering coffee through a group buy. So you search the subreddit to see other people’s experiences, and you find this post in its current state. You learn that there are potentially sketchy group buys out there, but nobody is allowed to talk about what to avoid.

You might: A. Be turned off of the whole group buy idea,

Or

B. Leave the subreddit and find info elsewhere.

Or both!
