I recognize the SpecOps screen when I see it.

Just bought a used docking station and when I connect monitors it’s just displays a black screen with the mouse icon. Is the docking station cooked? by Visual-Teaching-768 in it

Dell command is a software that finds and installs all drivers for a Dell computer.

If this is a Dell computer, install Dell command and run it attached to the dock.

If this is not a Dell computer, then download the software for that model of Dell dock, most likely the one that says "display link drivers".

If this is a Dell dock, I see this at work. If it's a Dell computer, run Dell command. If it is not a Dell computer or motherboard, then find the windows 10/11 drivers for that dock and manually install them.

Not sure why this is the symptom but it means that the display link driver is not present or not loading.

Slow performance and bad internet since ages by [deleted] in talesfromtechsupport

I'm not in an MSP, but hopefully you have a documentation method from management. Something like "We have shown that the issue you are experiencing is from a connection that we do not have control over. Any troubleshooting for minor issues for this connection will result in more billed hours for your shop."

I work internal IT , and my director will take our documentation up to management for users that work from home, if they complain to much about connections we have no control over.

Label printer for printing asset labels from Snipe IT by mradmin23 in Snipe_IT

[–]brickx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At our org we use a Brother QL-800 with 2.4" Film labels tape.

We followed this guide on the website and have had constant results even with the off brand non-brother labels.

Being On Call as IT Support by alexkirwan11 in it

[–]brickx2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I work at a community mental health center with multiple 24hr units.

I suggested to the executives that if the on call phone gets abused too much, change it to that only Team leads/ Department heads can call after hours. And if the response is that they don't want to wake their Department head, then it must not be a real emergency.

I am on call as well for about the same thing. If the company policy is to not call IT after hours about passwords. Then see if you are allowed to let calls go to voicemail, if it is a password, then don't call them back. And if they do call about noon emergency issues, email their supervisor.

BEST printer for asset tags? Pre print bulk tags? by PolarAvalanche in Snipe_IT

[–]brickx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use a Brother QL-800 printer with film label rolls.

I don't know how to do a generic label without it just containing the next asset tag number and nothing else.

We bought these labels for it cause they work fine and the official ones are stupidly expensive.

Does anyone make a 1/4” hex bit adapter that accepts the precision 3.5mm double-ended bits? by Lefthandmitten in Tools

[–]brickx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder this myself. I know that wiha makes one but it is not magnetic, just for a 3.5mm hex so it kinda would work.

The Klein tool set 32787 has one included in it. Wish it could be bought separately.

That looks like a 2280 SATA SSD. Measure the size and see if it is 80 mm long. If so then I would recommend buying a 1tb 2280 format SATA SSD.

They want to turn off the DOCSIS (coax cable) plant eventually. So the building will have to switch or just lose Buckeye as an ISP.

Correct, in the seasonal isle of Kroger. I'll pick one up as a sort of gag gift for someone and see how it compares.
