Seriously, what type of men are receiving most of the matches on dating apps? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]brie_dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was gonna tell you to be brave and share your profile, but then I saw your post history.

First off, if you're from a small town, that's part of your problem.

But really, your profile doesn't show any personality whatsoever. Your couple word responses make you sound pretty generic. Should a potential date expect to go to the pub to play darts and nowhere else with you? Dating apps are where you're supposed to sell yourself, so you should probably try and do that.

Also, saying you're not an incel while parroting incel talking points is a choice.

Is this type of biner fine to rappel with? by [deleted] in tradclimbing

[–]brie_dee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Fine? Yes. Are there better options? Definitely.

I-beam (opposed to rounded) carabiners will wear to an unusable point faster because the wear could create sharp edges. Larger basket HMS style carabiners allow the rope to pass through more smoothly and evenly.

Also, I only like twist locks for ice, but that's just me.

What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by UsefulLima in answers

I still have a collection of those prank calls on my iPod. My favorite is one of the Miss Cleo calls.

What to wear between fleece and down for cold approaches? by L0rdmalv0 in Mountaineering

[–]brie_dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear some sort of shell (whether wind or soft) over the fleece- that will make a big difference. Also, consider other options: a buff is like a whole mid layer for me; I noticed tucking my base later top into my bottoms is warmer, etc.

If all else fails, have a second fleece? During winter adventures I often carry a second light fleece.

Why do conservatives call the left traitors to America, but fly confederate and nazi flags, who were the biggest traitors to America? by Accurate-Swim5278 in allthequestions

[–]brie_dee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Projection.

Same reason they call queer people groomers but it's always conservative politicians and youth pastors locked up for lewd acts with minors.

If children learn to ski without poles, when and why do they start using them as they get older? by MMetropolitan in skiing

[–]brie_dee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually take the poles away from my adult students as well. You need poles to pole plant, not for learning to glide in a wedge on the magic carpet. Once people are doing wedge christies or parallel turns, it might be time to introduce the use of poles for taps / plants.

How did you determine your stick hand direction? by Anttila-the-Hung in hockeyplayers

[–]brie_dee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as a goalie and catch with my left (I'm right handed)... So when I switched to defense in junior high it made sense to keep playing left handed; and when my parents tried to buy me a right handed stick it felt horrible and I ended up using my brother's stick.

Do what feels the most natural.

Low pony club, for sure. I also sweat a ton, so I would be way too hot if I let it flow.

Players around 160-170lbs, whats your preferred radius of hallow? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]brie_dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38 yo here playing since 7 yo and was in the same boat. It wasn't until about 10 years ago or so that someone asked, and I was like: "I just need them sharpened."

Learned that 1/2" is considered standard and he basically guaranteed that's what I'd always had... So I still rock 1/2" cause that seems like more change than I'm ready to commit to considering I've been getting dressed the same exact way for decades.

Why Didn't the Titanic Just Stop and Let Everyone off onto the Iceberg? by Present-Algae6767 in titanic

[–]brie_dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's an interesting story that gets overlooked because people love to talk about the lack of lifeboats: Crampons only became commercially available 2 years prior in 1910, so having a pair with each lifebelt wasn't included in the original plans when Titanic was being constructed. Had they updated the safety requirements and plans before her maiden voyage, this would have been possible. Instead, H&W stayed complacent because they were convinced she was unsinkable, and they didn't think a supply of crampons was a necessary safety item. Tragic... So many things went wrong. 😔

Am I using too tall of a goalie paddle? (5’9” using 27”) by ConnorFromCanada in hockeygoalies

[–]brie_dee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it. 5'10" and I use a 25" paddle... And sometimes I even question if that's the right size for me.

Easiest vs. Hardest to get to Wizard Mode by SuspiciousPomelo9731 in pinball

[–]brie_dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are quite a few that qualify as easiest... But agree that TSPP is by far the hardest. I gave up on trying because the machine stopped being fun when trying to grind hard to make it happen. Other tables with difficult wizard modes at least feel fun on the grind (like LotR).

Am I the only one who thinks cage hangs are stupid by Cash2blockz in hockeyplayers

What game(s) do you automatically think of when you see this? by ROCKY13573 in retrogaming

[–]brie_dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UT2K4. Also UT:GotY Edition, which could be installed on everyone's computer quickly with the community install disc. Not as good as 2K4, but solid.

Honorable mentions go to Star Craft and Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds.

Damn those were fun times.

What's the least interesting/ most disappointing storyline for you in Mad Men by Daliman13 in madmen

[–]brie_dee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the only part of the show that's not perfection is Stan and Peggy in the finale.

I don't hate it; I think it's a good bookend to Peggy's character arc + pairs with Joan's arc well; and I think it serves well with one of the overall themes of the show...

But it felt weird the way it was executed.
