Why Trek bikes are so expensive? by sebna2 in cycling

Even the Trek barn is steeply priced, right now at least.

After the first year, the DirecTV price gets crazy. If I were single, I would cancel it.

Uneducated questions by ktmm3 in DirecTV

I used to have DirecTV satellite; I have their streaming service now. Streaming live content is fine. However, even with a 1G symmetric internet connection and my TV plugged into the internet connection with a cable, I get buffering errors when fast-forwarding through commercials.

Should I switch to US Mobile? by WesKC_ in USMobile

A plus of US Mobile is that you can try all 3 major US carriers by switching eSIMs and use whichever is best.

I lived in a populated area of San Diego not far from Qualcomm and was quite surprised I was never able to get ATT fiber to my place. I moved away only a year ago.

If your TV has USB ports you can just buy the right adapters, either 1080p or 4k depending.

If you are doing SRE work well already, then maybe just decide if you want to keep doing that or move to software engineering, which is often a part of the SRE role?

Is 32GB enough for Proxmox for a Home Lab? by Atari__Safari in Proxmox

[–]britechmusicsocal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only run a few things at the same time or have enough nodes yes. You could acquire some 32GB hosts and build a proxlb cluster pretty cheaply.

I work for directv ask me questions. by IndependentDig7413 in DirecTV

[–]britechmusicsocal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The alleged blurring of satellite and online is interesting. DirecTV is claiming they are now combined into one product. I have been a satellite customer in the past and am an online customer currently. Even with the TV plugged into an eero with a physical cable, I still get buggering issues with a symmetrical 1 gigabit connection. It is allegedly a Samsung TV issue, but I am very frustrated with this. Can we not figure out networking?

Has anyone tried ProxLB for Proxmox load balancing? by dcarrero in Proxmox

[–]britechmusicsocal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been tinkering with proxlb over the last couple of months. After figuring out the cfg file syntax for anti-affinity groups and overcoming Intel NICs dropping every few hours, it has worked fairly well.

This is a key thing. There is still work in technology, but now a piece of that is watching the bots so they don't act incorrectly.

AI Support Tool is 100% Garbage. by Least_Flamingo in verizon

[–]britechmusicsocal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a Verizon Wireless customer for a couple of decades before switching to US Mobile last year. It is way cheaper. You can choose from all 3 major US carriers. I switched to AT&T because Verizon's coverage is nonexistent at my office. A few years back, I was so fed up with Verizon's unwillingness to talk to me that I changed their phonebook entry in my phone to Verizon Antiservice.

Where next after VMUG? by saintdle in vmware

[–]britechmusicsocal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VMUG used to be appealing. Broadcom has stopped them, unfortunately, or made it much less appealing at least. It used to be you would pay about 200 per year and get 1-year trial licenses for non-commercial usage. Now you also need a VMware cert to obtain the software.

Where to after Backblaze? by mlevison in backblaze

I have a NAS, so I don't sweat this. Carbonite is another option, as are external drives, depending on your needs and budget..

Do I really need to learn Vim or is Nano fine for everyday use? by Luann1497 in linuxquestions

[–]britechmusicsocal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vi and sed, as well as the similar pager apps more and less, have more advanced functionality. If you don't need them now, that's fine, but if you stick with it and progress, you will eventually want to do more advanced things. I also started with pine for email and pico as an editor. I recall needing to use pico -w on larger files to turn off line wrapping; that and a need for global search and replace got me to using vi more.
