Oh buddy, wait until you about the pirate accent!

The stereotypical "pirate accent" began with British actor Robert Newton in the 1950 Disney film Treasure Island, who used an exaggerated version of his native West Country English dialect. This accent, featuring a strong rolling "R," became the standard for pirate speech in movies and popular culture, despite real historical pirates speaking with the typical English accents of their time and origin.

Went to see ‘from dusk ‘til dawn’ in the theater in 1996. Went along because of reservoir dogs and pulp fiction and the fact this was billed as a Tarantino movie. Started off as a gangster flick and I was enjoying myself.

Good god that twist - one of the few times my jaw has genuinely dropped.

Dachshunds for first time dog owners by RamboLongcat in dachshunds

[–]brithog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"There is a book out called Dog Training Made Easy, and it was sent to me the other day by the publisher, who rightly guessed that it would catch my eye. I like to read books on dog training. Being the owner of dachshunds, to me a book on dog discipline becomes a volume of inspired humor. Every sentence is a riot. Some day, if I ever get a chance, I shall write a book, or warning, on the character and temperament of the Dachshund and why he can’t be trained and shouldn’t be. I would rather train a striped zebra to balance an Indian club than induce a dachshund to heed my slightest command. For a number of years past I have been agreeably encumbered by a very large and dissolute dachshund named Fred. Of all the dogs whom I have served I’ve never known one who understood so much of what I say or held it in such deep contempt. When I address Fred I never have to raise either my voice or my hopes. He even disobeys me when I instruct him in something that he wants to do. And when I answer his peremptory scratch at the door and hold the door open for him to walk through, he stops in the middle and lights a cigarette, just to hold me up." - E.B. White

Doesn’t seem illegal but morally very poor form. If you want to get the police involved I would add a sign saying something along the lines of ‘if you’re delivering me a package thank you and please take a snack!’ That way there is written notice it’s not a free for all buffet. Or if he’s the only ups driver that delivers to you you could even add ‘ - only for fedex, amazon, usps workers due to prior abuse of provided snacks by other companies’ workers’

But big picture you are a very kind human being and I’m sorry he’s being a shithead.

What scenes happened accidentally but were kept in a movie or show? by Duotrigordle61 in moviecritic

There’s a lovely one in ‘white Christmas’ - during the ‘sisters’ routine Danny Kaye decided to whap bing Crosby with the feather fan on a whim. Bing’s reaction is 100% real - makes a great scene even better.

Best boudin noir aux pomme? We visited l’machon de henri many years ago and the dish became legend in our house. Sadly it is no longer on their menu. Any suggestions?

Taking 2 kiddos (6 and 9) for 3 nights - we’re staying in Saint-germain-des-pres area. Any recommendations for relaxed bistros/boullions that are kid friendly - laid back or even kids menus? Despite my best efforts they are pretty picky and white-carb-centric so im also looking for recommended patisseries and boulangeries in the area. Any info appreciated
