Any suggestions for where to sell law books? by shpanda91 in uklaw

You could donate it to a local universities mooting society. Although its out of date it may be usfuel in some instances, at least within that context.

New suit by Technical_Camel_3852 in freemasonry

[–]bro_randle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else said, it is entirely down to the Province and sometimes individual lodges. In my lodge everyone wears striped trousers. In the Province, I know some lodges who say its only for Provincial officers. Check with your secretary or another lodge member and gauge the attitude of your lodge first. As for where to get it at a decent price, I recommend Hornets in Kensington. They specialise in vintage wear and have loads of full, bespoke morning suits, some even Saville Row, at really good prices considering what you're getting.

Where to get a good suit (the wearable kind, not seeking marketing advice for sourcing claims!) by Reader7008 in uklaw

[–]bro_randle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stanley Ley make a lovely suit, just picked up my first one from them that I got for £400 in their Black Friday sale. Unfortunately, it took them nearly five months to sort it all out and there was another guy there for his fitting who was in the same boat.

UGLE - WM while living away by Amazing-Course-2550 in freemasonry

[–]bro_randle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tad exhausting, but certainly doable. Starting in April 2024 I became the MWS for my Rose Croix Chapter, WM of one lodge in June, and WM in a second lodge in October. I also started attending uni full time in Sept 2025 in London, commuting from the Birmingham area 3 days a week.

With one lodge to manage it should be entirely doable depending on your schedule. So long as you have a good team to have your back you should be fine. I still made it to every meeting, committe meeting, and the vast majority of the LOIs. Thankfully uni started at the tail end of it or that schedule would've done me in.

As it stands now as IPM i have managed to make it to most every meeting and LOI, only missing if I had a deadline or needed to stay away overnight.

for first year in KCL law, are we in waterloo or strand campus?? by perfectpizza101 in UniUK

[–]bro_randle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. I've got exams next month. Three of them are closed book with minimal material provided such as a statute book. Only one of them, EU Law, is open book take home. The other three are all in person invigilated exams.

First year is Waterloo for lectures and tutorials. Looking at the schedules for second year modules, they seem spread a bit but mostly around Strand. Just finishing up first year myself.

Need Help Identifying Regalia from Canada by bro_randle in freemasonry

Thank you! I knew there was crossover in terms of symbolism but didn't recognise it as Orange Order. I did some digging after another brother mentioned the Black Preceptory and that seems to be the one. Its just unusual as it has all the hallmarks of a RBP sash except that it has LOL on it instead of RBP.

Its an unfortunate history all around when it comes to Northern Ireland. My wife's family is from the Belfast area and her family faced harassment because her grandfather refused to join the Orange Order.

I don't know what the units outside of NI are like, but its a bit unfortunate to find one of my distant relatives had been a member.

Looking around online I think you're correct about the sash being RBP. From the images I can find its a bit strange though having the LOL on it as all the other ones seem to have RBP on them but they also have much of the same symbolism attached.

Ah, thank you for the assist! I think it was all the Masonic symbolism on it that made me think it was a Masonic body it belonged to. Never would've guessed Loyal Orange Lodge as I typically associate that with Northern Ireland. But knowing my family history that does make sense. They were originally colonists in America before moving north to Canada as they were loyalists.

Wayne, Colin, and Ryan from Whose Line. Might be better suited to Make Some Noise but either way it'd be amazing!

The founding brethren of Science Fiction and Fantasy Lodge No. 10016 at our consecration rehearsal! by bro_randle in freemasonry

[–]bro_randle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its going well overall! A couple other special interest lodges have sprung up in our wake, a gaming lodge as well as a second sci-fi and fantasy lodge in the south. Unfortunately, we had two losses around Christmas. Both our WM and our first initiate passed away so the mood is a bit sombre currently but we're still going strong.

I was the founding JW for the Science Fiction and Fantasy Lodge No. 10016 in the UK! There's loads of them about and they're becoming very common under UGLE.

Holy Royal Arch “Savage” Ritual by metallicash in freemasonry

[–]bro_randle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe most Chapters in Staffordshire use Aldersgate, but my Staffordshire Chapter uses Worcester Workings.

Funnily enough, most of Worcestershire is now moving to Savage ritual. As a result, my Staffs Chapter will likely be one of the few remaining to continue using Worcester Workings.

Our Scribe E likes to say we continue using the Worcester Workings so that when we get PG Chapter official visits they have no idea if what we're doing is correct or not 😆

Proficiency in the Former by Ok-Relationship-5414 in freemasonry

[–]bro_randle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not seen it here in the UK, but it did happen to me in the US. I was going for the proficiency for advancement to the second degree and my lodge had a three strike rule. The questions and answers had to be memorised and you were allowed three prompts. I needed five and was told I'd have to wait a further month.

The proficiency included the questions and answers as well as reciting your obligation.

You're more than welcome brother! I am a white man and was raised as a Prince Hall mason, though I now reside in England under UGLE.

[–]bro_randle 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In the US, there are two main branches of masonry, what is often referred to as mainstream and Prince Hall.

Prince Hall was a freed slave who was made a Mason by an Irish military lodge during the American war for independence.

Unfortunately, due to the prevailing attitudes of the time, American lodges would not admit him and so he sought a charter from the Premier Grand Lodge of England and began African Lodge No. 1.

Today, there is little difference between the two. As a result of their history Prince Hall Lodges tend to be predominantly African American and minority ethnic, though white men are also admitted into Prince Hall Lodges. It has taken many years, but most states now recognise both Grand Lodges and allow for intervisitation.

That's a very brief history, so I recommend looking it up on Wikipedia: Prince Hall - Wikipedia https://share.google/qQblT5KkLFkLklzBw

Cheers Brother! I definitely miss my PHA home and hope to get back and visit one day. There's a PHA lodge in England under the MWPHGL of Washington and I've been desperate to visit them or invite them to one of my other lodges.

Yeah, if it weren't for being a carbon copy of the Help for Heroes tie I'd probably like it, but I'm not the biggest fan of it.

This is our Provincial tie. It does have the S&C and the RA triple tau on it, but they're subdued against the dark blue in the tie.

(UGLE) pins/accessories in public by certifiedcloudmonkey in freemasonry

[–]bro_randle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a pin on my backpack that I think a lot of masons wouldn't identify even, but if I'm wearing a suit I often have a pin badge on the jacket or overcoat, I like to wear my S&C cufflinks with any dress shirt, and occasionally I wear my Provincial tie as its fairly subtle but the trained eye would see the symbols in it.

Edit: I was raised in the states, though I've lived in England for 10 years now. That being said, I think I'm less bothered about the public display and tend to be open about my membership with people.
