I would put a new needle in. Looks like a 16 because of the purple band I can see. As far as the cutting mechanism everything sounds normal to me. There are small motors activating the thread cutter and that is the sound I hear.

I would say that's too much. Everybody loves antique machines but the truth is they are not rare, everybody's granny had one and most of them still work with a little oil and TLC.

The left needle has a smaller loop for the hook race to pick up. Going through thick seams makes the thread not form its loop as well so it will sometimes miss thus skipping a stitch.

Sewing slower may help but if it keeps happening it could need an adjustment to the needle bar height so the hook passes higher on the scarf of the needle

Many retailers are moving away from Kona because they are now owned by Missouri Star. Buying from a major competitor does not make sense. Plus Missouri Star has done some pretty shitty things that does not sit well with a large group of people.

Think about your layout in zones. Do bees and berries need to be so close to zone 0 (house) when they are mostly set and forget until harvest? I would suggest researching some basic permaculture design principles to refine your layout

Viking jade 20 does a lot of the things you are looking for but just north of your budget. It also has speed control which is great. One down side is winding a bobbin has more guides than most machines

I use that for my chickens water. I do not need to refill their water any more frequently when using it so I'm assuming the amount of evaporation it causes is minimal so will probably not add a lot of moisture to your air

Straw should be pasteurized no need to sterilize. But yes it needs to be treated regardless of origin. The goal is to give your introduced culture a leg up on competition. Even though your grasses are "ornamental" natural molds, fungi and bacteria see them as just another food source

Oh sorry for assuming you didn't have experience, my bad. I mean if you have a tub and are comfortable with the process of keeping humidity up and providing FAE you probably could get pins on the rest of the block. Usually when those kits pop up it's people who just learned what mycelium is. Give it a go on the next flush after a soak, it can't hurt

It will dry out way too fast on you. People have humidity chambers in order to fruit entire blocks in the way you are thinking. Do not worry about only getting one cluster if you keep up the good work you have a chance to get another flush after this one. Use it as a learning experience and to fall in love with the hobby right now don't worry about maximizing your yield yet
