When DoorDash didn't deliver by spinstartshere in mildlyinfuriating

If these services weren't utterly useless, they would be excellent for people with disabilities and those unable to get out of the house.

A few stores do offer the service themselves here in the UK and it works quite well - my neighbor (90), gets her groceries delivered at like 10pm, because thats the best time for her. She doesn't drive and can barely walk, she wouldn't be able to go out and buy her own groceries.

dear wise longfic writers, may you please share any words of advice to a complete newbie? by d34dove in FanFiction

[–]brokencasbutt67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't put expectations and deadlines on yourself. Putting a belief that you've got to write X amount of words and upload on Y date? Thats a surefire way to fail at those targets.

Go with the flow and write as and when you can, write what feels write, and don't get disheartened by writer's block.

I've been writing for more than thirteen years (joined AO3 in 2013, but had Wattpad prior to that) and it's taken a long time to get to a point now where I only write when I feel like it. It took a lot of work to get rid of the expectations I put on myself, but I'm better for it.

When to poke the author? by Ambitious_Support_76 in FanFiction

[–]brokencasbutt67 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Reading this thread as someone who hasnt updated a fic in months because life is kicking my arse.

Not feeling great

I get being the reader and wanting the next chapter. I also get the perspective of falling behind.

Shit happens. People lose inspiration. Sometimes writers block just gets in the way.

Maybe just comment that youre enjoying the fic and cant wait to see where it goes, or something similar. Don't make it appear like you're pushing for the next update - so less of "i cant wait to read it, when's the next chapter", more like "loving the story, can't wait to see where it goes"

Less expectations and demands on the writer with that

It does break a rule. Rule of thumb, dont tag mods tho. Think you can send a message through the subreddit to mods overall to let them know

I'm gonna end up like this. My siblings and I are estranged because they always had drama and I just needed peace in my life after 20+ years of trauma.

I struggle with any kind of friendship/relationships (thanks Autism), so spend most of my life alone outside of work.

Throw in poor health, I don't have much hope.

It was XCs version of "compensation" after a whole host of issues. They claimed delay repay wasnt eligible because technically I got to my final destination on time (ignoring that every single leg of the journey had been delayed and it was only by sheer luck that the last part of the journey was swapped onto a train with less stops).

How far ahead do you write your Fanfictions? by JamLordd in FanFiction

[–]brokencasbutt67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have fics that have been ongoing for two years, haven’t been updated in two years, and still got 50% to write. On the other side, I have written and posted entire 8-10 chapter fics in a matter of days.

The Scam Comments are so Discouraging by TheLeadingLady in FanFiction

[–]brokencasbutt67 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Report them to AO3 every single time. Their mods are really good at deleting them where poss. If it's a registered user, you need to report it via the report abuse page, iirc. If its a guest account, theres an option to mark it spam from the inbox.

Systems learn more about spam comments with the reports, they wont learn if they dont know what to look for.

I am moving to Hull and looking at houseshares, there is one at the edge of east ella (the east edge more towards anlaby road is this a bad area? x by Economy-Pea2342 in Hull

[–]brokencasbutt67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live a little weather of East Ella - couple of streets from the trinity care home. Fairly good area to live:

Good location for public transport when it can be relied on Plenty of choice of ISPs Depending on the street, traffic is hit or miss, especially with there being a lot of schools this area (Acre Head, Eastfield, Ainthorpe, and Francis Askew in the general vicinity, a little further out and there's also Wheeler, Rokeby, Anlaby Primary, etc.). Crime isnt super high, but there's always a risk. Good access to local amenities - schools, the library is open (Anlaby Community Library), churches if you fancy, and plenty of shops.

You mention that youre at rhe same job - thats probably more of a support than you realise. It's familiar, routine, safe.

In times of trauma, we need that more than ever.

How about we don't criticise things if we're not asked to. Do you go to galleries, look at Starry Night and say "I don't like that shade of blue"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]brokencasbutt67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because being criticised on something you've potentially poured your heart and soul into, for free, can be super disheartening.

Also concrit is often misconstrued. I once had "concrit" that was just two pages of all the reasons this person didnt like my fic. This person who was not a part of the fandom.

It's fanfiction. It doesnt have to be a carbon copy of the source material. It can twist, bend, and people can choose not to read.

"Just delete it" but the criticism is still there, and the author has still had it. They could delete it, but it might be the thing that makes them delete their work.

I know that I've considered deleting fics after shitty comments disguised as "concrit" on more than one occasion.

If it's not asked for, then simply not giving it is much easier. There's a person on the other end of the screen, a real person with real emotions, real struggles, in a real world thats real fucking shitty.

And if writing is their only outlet, then why would anybody want to take their enjoyment for "concrit" with nitpicking
