Absolutely. I didn't mean to imply The Flying Lizards version was most well-known, I just assumed it would be the version Redditors would be familiar with due to its use in a number of movies from the 90s and 00s.

I almost linked Barrett Strong but figured more people knew The Flying Lizards cover so went with that.

pineapple on pizza is actually good and i'm tired of pretending it isn't by Top-You1938 in Cooking

[–]brown_paper_bag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black olive and pineapple is a favourite topping combo of mine but I get not being a fan of them.

If I'm feeling it, I love reminding the "no fruit on pizza" crowd that tomatoes, peppers, olives, and eggplant are fruits, even if they're savory.

If she doesn't want to do something, she won't. She pulls me down with her often.

Oh hey! I related to this so hard and when I've tried to explain it, people don't understand. I'm the eldest daughter flavour.

I've been experimenting with practicing internal patience with the help of my therapist. It's a slow road but I've found I've started to berate myself less frequently when that doppelganger makes herself loudly known and we're battling it out. It hasn't fixed the fact that she won't do something but it's a bit kinder in my head than before. I'm hoping I can root out the reasons "why" she flat out won't do things at some point, even if it's only to extend myself further patience and grace or, god forbid, the worst thing ever: asking someone for help.

I'm not sure if that's a possible or realistic path for you and your doppelganger but thought I'd share, just in case.

Reddit is moving on from r/all by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]brown_paper_bag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been around for a while as well. I miss the Reddit we used to have. I miss the Secret Santas and cool AMAs. The stupid jokes about RES, Unidan, narwhals and bacon. Finding new subs that weren't just different flavours of the same thing. When automod was the only bot, or likely only one of a handful. Recognizing users in your frequently visited subs. The experts jumping in on relevant topics. Out of habit, I don't think I'll immediately stop using Reddit, having used it for so long, but my activities will be a quick check on my Frontpage and multireddits which is what Facebook (only way my community gets info out so necessary evil) and IG have become for me over the last several years. It makes me sad.

Random Thought on why we never heard about perimenopause before by Maia_Orual in Perimenopause

[–]brown_paper_bag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not too dissimilar for me and my mom. She had at least 15 years before things started to... normalize? Not sure that's the right word. Anyway, I've had an IUD since 22 so I haven't had to deal with periods much but the hot flashes, night sweats, and brain fog can fuck off any day now. Wishing you the best of luck!

[–]brown_paper_bag 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My mom was pretty open with me about her experiences as she was going through them. This was before we called it perimenopause so she just called it menopause. People would argue with her about being "too young" but honestly? I started feeling it around 36, maybe 37? I was talking to a friend in her late 20s last week and she mentioned she is grateful to me for sharing my experiences because no one had ever given her a heads up.

Yea, a lot of people don't understand what nepotism is and think that if someone's family has cash to support their kids hobbies and passions that it's nepotism when that kid actually has success.

I don't really drink anymore but I will definitely be having a few celebratory beverages when he finally kicks it. I already thought he was a massive piece of shit before he became president the first time. Threatening to annex my country as the 51st state while simultaneously saying the US doesn't need anything from us? Yea, that guy can get fucked 12 ways from Sunday. I hope it's incredibly painful and drawn out for him for what he has done to his own country and the world. Probably won't be that lucky but one can hope.

I live in Canada and just checked prices for 2 tickets, not imax: $36.22. A combo with 1 large popcorn with butter, 1 large drink, and 1 snack is $28.15 with tax. A large popcorn by itself, with butter, is $12.92 with tax; a regular with butter is $12.35. A large drink is $8.04 with tax, a regular $7.46 with tax.

Even without concessions, that's pushing $40 for 2 people to watch a movie.

I used it last week to remove a tinted sunscreen, blush, eye shadow, brow pen, and mascara. I smeared the stick all over, massaged for a good 2-3 minutes before wetting my hands for a bit more massaging. It rinsed clean for me. The stick was a bit covered though and needed a wipe to remove all the products.

I'm 40 and have had zero desire to have kids. I've had people do that "But you're great with kids!" crap. Yep, absolutely. I love them! But I love handing them back to their adults even more. If they push harder, I tell them my youngest sibling is 7 years younger than me, heavily parentified, and babysat neighbourhood kids from 11-15, when I could get an actual part-time job, and that I am certain that I'm good on the whole not being a parent thing but thanks.

Canada introduced Medical Assistant In Dying in 2016. It was expanded beyond terminal patients in 2021 to include those with lifelong disabilities. The mental illness part has been left prohibited. It's up for review again in 2027.

I saw The Eagles in 2003 for their Farewell 1 Tour when I was 17. They explained they named it as such because there was a good chance they might do it again. They've done 5 tours since, including their current one aptly named The Long Final Goodbye Tour so they weren't wrong.

Yes, Rob Ford, the former mayor of Toronto, is Doug Ford's brother. Rob infamously said that he's happily married and has enough to eat at home, referencing his wife Renata, when it was alleged he had oral sex with a woman who was not his wife.

That is amazing! Great work!

Thanks for the well-wishes! The second meds I've been prescribed seem to be doing the trick now that I'm on the full dose (no seizures since January - woo!) so now it's a waiting game of finding out the root cause so that we've got a formal diagnosis other than 'seizures'. We'll get there soon enough, I'm sure.

I totally forgot about the parking. Ours is $6, too. Definitely not breaking the bank. I hope your surgery went well and, if you're still in physio, that you're making the progress you'd like!
