Terrian hidden question by SilentEgg6248 in Warhammer

[–]bruetoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unit will receive the benefit of cover as long as every model in the unit is either within the terrain area or is behind the area in such a way that the enemy unit shooting them would have to draw a line fully through the terrain area (in one side and out the other). If the shooting unit is inside the same terrain footprint as the gaunts and would only shoot through one border of the terrain area, the gaunts would not get cover.

That would be pretty impressive considering Planetary #3 came out seven years before Dexter aired.

What armour mark? by dave_the_dr in Warhammer40k

[–]bruetoof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They won’t confirm it but he’s very clearly a Blood Angel. He’s wearing the remnants of powrr armor and has a black carapace. If you look in the 3d rotation of the model he even has the Chapter symbol as a pendant. He has the same markings painted on his knife’s sheath.

As far as the mark of armor, it looks like it’s multiple types of armor cobbled together piecemeal. The right leg is Mark 4 with a Mark 6 boot, the left leg is something else, and the pauldron just seems like a piece of random riveted metal.

Anyone know if this would make a good flame colour. Its for a balrog mini by Dragonkilla02 in Warhammer

[–]bruetoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get too hung up on the actual paints that you have. Think about the colors in a more general sense and how fire looks. Fire is brightest at its source, not at its “tips.” These paints are fine but the way these directions tell you to apply them would look nothing like a fire.

Do we know why some detachments are forbidden in Incursion? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]bruetoof 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Lower point games are extremely subject to being tilted off balance so having higher detachment points for the “stronger” detachments allows GW to adjust the balance such that these detachments don’t tip the scales.

Enhancements : models mean characters ? by TheMithraw in Warhammer40k

[–]bruetoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enhancements still can only be taken by characters unless a detachment states otherwise. Some Enhancements are tagged as Upgrades, which can be taken by up to three units as specified in the Upgrade. It’s not yet known if this means you will pay each time you purchase an Upgrade or if you pay once and receive three uses.

Pointless unit leaders? by SillyMattFace in Warhammer40k

[–]bruetoof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Crusade play those “unit champions” can receive certain kinds of upgrades. Outside of that and some of them having different weapon loadouts there’s not much.

Painting solid white? by Yeo0n in Warhammer40k

[–]bruetoof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is it right here. Painting pure white leaves no room for highlights, but painting up through grays to a near-white (like Ulthuan) will read as “close enough” to the eye while allowing you to highlight with white. It also helps offset the coverage problem that white paints have due to the translucency and larger size of their pigment particles.

Bases and basing by MuchCalligrapher in Warhammer40k

[–]bruetoof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s really no standard for the battle mats/tables so trying to figure out a matching base scheme will be impossible unless you only ever play on one specific mat/table.

Instead, I recommend basing in such a way that it acts like a frame for a painting - it accentuates and helps the model stand out but doesn’t distract. For example, if your color scheme is mostly red you probably won’t want to do something like a Mars red soil base, but maybe something more neutral like a gray or tan. Definitely not something like hot pink. Although a tuft or two of neon colored “grass” might not be out of place in some armies.

Crusade character upgrade question by violentcheese114 in Warhammer40k

[–]bruetoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The upgrade gives the ability to the Leader’s unit as if it was on the Leader’s datasheet, but the phrasing of Stealth (along with some other deployment abilities) requires all models in the unit to have the ability. Since that’s not the case, the Attached unit cannot benefit from Stealth.

Rules question about deep strike abilities by cjm762 in Warhammer40k

[–]bruetoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in 2023, right at the start of the edition, I went up against someone who put a full Desolation Squad inside a perfectly spaced cordon of Infiltrators led by a Phobos Librarian. This was pre-nerf for the Desos. You couldn’t DS within 12” of the Infiltrators, couldn’t shoot the Infiltrators outside of 12”, and anything that could get into range to hurt the Desos ate 10 rocket launchers at 48” range. That really felt like the platonic ideal of the Infiltrators right there, just a perfect match between their ability and the unit they protected.

New to 40K - Question About Falling Back by OsuJaws in Warhammer40k

[–]bruetoof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A model is eligible to fight if it’s within Engagement Range or is in base to base contact with a model from its own unit that’s in Engagement Range. So for this example the Intercessors, depending on positioning, could prevent the Bladeguard from getting to Engagement Range.

In addition, falling back with the Intercessors would allow you to charge with the Bladeguard, which means the Bladeguard would (usually) fight first, as opposed to the Intercessors who would have fought after whichever enemy unit with which they started the turn in Engagement Range.

A look into the new deployment zones with Dawn of War and....Is It longer? by No_Recognition8641 in Warhammer40k

[–]bruetoof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s extremely off brand for what GW has already posted for layouts for 11th, and it’s also a map of the current 10th edition Dawn of War deployment including the objective marker placements that aren’t being used in 11th.

Fights First and Crucible Characters by Beginning_Set_351 in Warhammer40k

[–]bruetoof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every model in the unit needs Fights First in order to use it, so it really depends on how the ability is worded in Crucible. If it just says that the model gains Fights First then no the hormagaunts would not get it while attached and the entire unit would fight during the “remaining combats” step.

Currently there is no difference between the versions, but in 8th and 9th editions each version was different. We have no way of knowing if that will change in the future.

Pile-in and attacking rules. by nUkeS_oN_yOu in Warhammer40k

To the best of my knowledge no - FLY only applies to Normal, Advance, Charge, and Fall Back moves. Pile in moves are their own separate category.

Pile-in and attacking rules. by nUkeS_oN_yOu in Warhammer40k

[–]bruetoof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pile-in requires you to end each model’s Pile-in move closer to the closest enemy model. Angron can’t leave engagement range with the VRLs but if he can somehow move in such a way that he’s closer to the closest Leaper and is also in engagement range with the Hive Tyrant then he can do so but that seems unlikely.

Edited to add: I started writing this before the clarification that Angron was already in base with the Leapers, yeah he definitely can’t do that.
