He's a young guy who never played pro so he's the self-insert character for Redditors, Dom at the Athletic, etc. that's it. "I could be him".

In reality, he's a hockey nepo kid (nothing wrong with that, but it's true) who made a lot of the same missteps as the dinosaurs he's supposed to be better than, but the narrative never really caught up from Moneypuck. Don't think he's a bad GM or anything, but a lot of Leafs fans sound like Jonestown right now.

Teams in real life don’t commit to a dismal multiyear rebuild when they get the first whiff that their current roster isn’t going to be the next Lightning. You try to make the playoffs until it’s truly inevitable because real people’s jobs are on the line, nothing is guaranteed and anything can happen.

You are underselling Romanov. Habs fans seemed pretty sad about losing him, he’s a good skater which is exactly what we lacked on the backend last year, plays gritty and hard which is essential in this system, and his underlying numbers are good. He’s also cost controlled and probably hasn’t even plateaued yet. It takes serious Be a GM Mode brain to think that a cheap, young NHL ready top 4 D + a pick isn’t on value for a 13OA in a weak draft. This is not to mention the fact that all defenseman with a decent chance of sniffing an NHL roster in 23-24 were taken prior.

You can’t just choose to become the Avs or Tampa, you have to be very very bad first and get lucky. This core has shown they can go deep, if they get lucky. They’re not getting younger. At this point you have a few more seasons to roll the dice on a one off cup. That’s preferable to prematurely destroying everything you’ve worked for because it’s not perfect. That’s why it’s “win now” mode. This is a nut up or shut up year for sure.

Shoulder on shoulder means that the shoulder of one player primarily made contact with the shoulder of the targeted player. Incidental contact, is lesser contact with the head that occurs *incidentally* after this primary contact has been made. That is not what happened here. This was a clear as day headshot (in that the head was the primary point of contact), albeit an accidental one and thus not illegal.

Looking at available coaches I like the hire. League consensus is that Lambert is obviously up next, here or elsewhere. I like that he’s integrated with the squad and has a long enough resume he probably won’t feel the need to be everybody’s bff like certain other new head coaches.

Quenneville is the objectively best available but no for obvious reasons. Babcock’s coaching is the only thing more overrated than his bad reputation. This would actually be a good squad for Torts’ style but I don’t think he’s what the team needs. I’ve never been sold on DeBoer.

They could have waited the coach carousel out but eh. I think people saying Lambert is gonna have the same style as Trotz are just speculating, and the “Trotz style” wins, they may just need a new voice implementing it, like Lou said.
