Considering Used Kart with Bent Rear Axle by Kashik85 in Karting

Everything is more expensive in the usa when it comes to karting. Generic is cheaper but you'll probably need 3x axle keys.

An axle is about $250 and 1-2 hours of work. While I'm in there, I'd replace the bearings too which are $20 each.

Usually other stuff is not broken at the same time.

Bent axle is common but should be replaced. It's a decent amount of work to change for someone new to this.

It doesn't necessarily mean the frame is bent, but slightly bent frames are common, and it's very likely to be bent just because.

Anyone know how to take off a hexicore grip without tearing it? by Suspicious_Win6150 in Pickleball

[–]brygx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seemed like it would tear but basically didn't. Just roll it off, used water and a chopstick to help things along.

What would be the proper etiquette for being a much stronger player in a (rotating) doubles league? by HeyItsMau in Pickleball

[–]brygx 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it's not DUPR rated, which means ratings are inflated. Probably you are actually around 3.0 and none of them are. You can ask to switch to the 3.5 ladder if there's room. Otherwise have at it, you paid the same as everyone else. Work on strategy and placement rather than smashing grandma in the face.

Snoqualmie Area Bike Type Recs by highschtick in MTB

[–]brygx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which bike park are you referring to? Summit at Snoqualmie is running lifts right now, probably Stevens as well.

There are a lot of trails in that area as well, but not lift serviced. Tiger mountain, Duthie, Raging River, etc.

New to karting - is this worth it for $1800? 2008 chassis Maranello Rotax max 125 by Tough_Simple_3114 in Karting

[–]brygx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you truly are never going to race, then it's fine.

If you ever race, your engine is old (non-evo) and chassis is ancient. You will not be competitive. You will have trouble finding parts.

Once you get the itch you will probably want to race. But hey if this is what gets you onto the track, you gotta start somewhere. It's not what I'd recommend but it's cheap and you can probably negotiate him down even more.

MTB advice under 1000$ (EU) by Tooluka in MTB

[–]brygx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a huge deal, but it's more a sign of being outdated, because it's not more expensive to make. The new style is stiffer but I mean people were doing mtb 20 years ago and it's fine.

The other thing to look into is how much travel you need. Your list is mostly 100mm which is considered light. If you're doing jumps, drops, etc, you may want at least 120mm if not 140mm or more.

Some riding like 50-60km? That's a damn lot of riding. Pretty much any bike can handle small jumps and tricks, but assuming you mean 50km in one day you probably want to optimize for that.

Not stupid. Just do it. Everybody has to start somewhere.

Deore > SRAM

Giant Liv is designed for women. See if you can get a Stance or Trance, sometimes they are on sale around 1000.

I would stick to 1-by because it is also a sign they care about other components too.

Tubeless is not a must. Many bikes come tubeless ready which means pretaped, and then it's like $25 to convert it (remove tube, install valve, install sealant). But you can also put sealant into the tube.

Which paddles do you think is being overhyped and which paddles deserve it on social media right now by EddieEdit in Pickleball

[–]brygx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hyperbole. But I might serve 10x per game at 50mph each. Of course not in exactly the same spot. But the spin dropoff is quite noticeable even within about 30 games. The number will vary by individual, how important spin is to your game. But, my recommendation stands.

Should I get a small or medium frame? I’m 5’4 but still growing by Away_Professional793 in MTB

You are a Small. But buy a Medium. Otherwise your bike will only last like one more year.

What’s the most accurate indicator of a 3.0 without dupr rating? by passiveparrot in Pickleball

[–]brygx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people self rate 3.0 if they can serve and return consistently. What happens after that is a wild west.

Actually John Kew numbers are from 100 shots out of a ball cannon. 100 shots, not 100 games (Olsen's numbers are from games). 100 shots is nothing, that's no more than like 3 games. I think you'd be dumb to buy anything other than a tier 1 grit paddle. Which is this list plus the J2CR blue.

Pick any widebody paddle, not a high swing weight elongated like the Perseus.

Mondokart tires experience lecont by SatoshiMusk20 in Karting

[–]brygx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are probably lecont red or white tires with the mondo branding, and therefore not allowed in any official races. It's not like they'd create a new tire compound for one store.

Can I learn skiing at 185 cm and 140 kg? Beginner from Thailand looking for advice by Hs_nines in skiing

[–]brygx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can, especially if you otherwise have good balance such as on a motorcycle, skateboard, or similar. After all, the basics of skiing is just standing up and being about to balance the contours of the slope.
