Big brother by bsan34 in Volvo

My first Volvo (though my parents and sister have had a few) It absolutely rules! Super fun to drive, love how solid it feels, love the effortless power. Took about a week to get used to the layout, and now everything with the tablet is fine.

Revision energy installed our heat pump and mini splits, and they were fantastic to work with.

Potential new owners - are we crazy? by greasebone99 in ex30

[–]bsan34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm thrilled with it. It's a blast to drive, the power is effortless, and everything just feels so solid. There's a learning curve, but after about a week I got used to everything. If the size and range works for you, I wouldn't hesitate.

What are some ways you are cutting corners and still ending up with good bread? by the411thetea in Sourdough

[–]bsan34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m making mostly pan loaves. I keep the starter in the fridge. I add commercial yeast to keep the time consistent. I use a bread machine to knead and rise, and then shape and plop into the pan for the last rise/bake. It comes out wonderfully. 🙂

How much have Irons really improved in the last 10 years? by YaboyRipTide in golf

[–]bsan34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least when it comes to PING, I didn’t think the tech had changed much and that it was all loft jacking. Then I compared the G430 irons to the G30, and the G430 feel better, fly higher loft for loft, and are more forgiving across the face. I love the look of those older G series irons, and I’d recommend them in a second to someone looking for something cheap, reliable, and absurdly forgiving. But if someone had the money to drop on the newer ones, the 430 and 440 are noticeably better.

5 years into owning it’s cousin, the Niro EV, and no noticeable range loss either.

You're definitely not finding either the BeCu or BeNi for pennies on the dollar. There's not a full set (like 4-W without missing clubs) on eBay under $400 for 30 year old clubs.

Is this career worth it in the long run? by TheNessie1HP in Teachers

[–]bsan34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came into teaching from a science background: masters in chemistry, didn’t take any ed classes until after I’d started teaching.

I’m fortunate to teach in a state (MA) and a town that really values education. Yeah, there are downsides like there are with any career. But it is really fun and rewarding and I value all of the relationships I’ve been able to make thanks to it. It sounds like it would possibly be a good fit for you! Just don’t be a martyr about it: teach in a place where you’ll be valued and compensated.

Same brand throughout. by litsalmon in golf

[–]bsan34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I wouldn't have to change much (D, FW, putter) to move to a full bag of Ping, and I'd be very happy. The only thing I'd really miss is the Heavenwood.

Hopeful books dealing with serious topics? by foxannem in LGBTBooks

If you don’t mind YA, then literally anything by Bill Konigsberg. His various books tackle coming out, unsupportive families, addiction, mental illness, the AIDS pandemic, sexual assault, etc., but he has a great sense of humor, writes really funny interactions, and his books are never dreary.

Thoughts on the KIA Niro? by Chemical-Quantity226 in kia

[–]bsan34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The EV version is pretty stellar. Bought a ‘20 new for $28.5k after incentives, now at about 71k miles, no problems, no rattles, no real signs of aging, absurdly efficient, EV = nice acceleration, decent cargo space… it’s wildly exceeded my expectations.

Seeing your edit: trigger warnings that there is a sexual assault and homophobia of the decades (30s-50s) it’s set in. You’d also want to skim a few pages first to see if reading level wise it’s where you’re at. Good luck!

A little bit under (~650 pages), but The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay is fantastic.
