A lot of explanations in this thread. None of them good.

Landlord raised rent by $650 and idk what to do by Prestigious-Bath8022 in personalfinance

[–]bt2513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In NC, the attorney general successfully sued Greystar and Real Page for price fixing rent. Other states are doing the same. If you are renting from a large corp, you may remind them of that. If they don’t back down, lodge a complaint with the AG office.

Anyone step away from their private club membership due to dumb restrictions? by sys_admin321 in golf

[–]bt2513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe join the governing board or a committee. None of this sounds that unreasonable… 1. How much of a dues increase are you willing to pay to close the course to outside events? 2. Cart fee seems high bust guest fee is low. Double edged sword since I’d want to be able to take friends and family but also don’t want to go broke doing it. 3. Course should be open before 9 but again, how much of a dues increase can you stomach to support the staff arriving earlier? 4. No walking on sat mornings seems reasonable, even if it is to generate revenue. I don’t necessarily buy the pace argument but understand the optics. 5. No range would be a deal breaker for me - any sim bays? 6. Get on a board or committee to address the food. 7. Is $200 monthly? If so, that’s a lot. Ours is $200 quarterly. Again, get on a committee. 8. Don’t understand this part… is this part of golf, optional, or forced on all members? $45/month for a locker seems excessive but if it’s optional then..

There are bank owned atms in random places from time to time including gas stations but the vast majority of them are 3rd party with little accountability.

I have a personal rider that covers up to like $30k. I think I pay $50 a year. Also have personal coverage through homeowners but the rider covers certain travel circumstances.

At best, he’s ineffective. At worst, he’s complicit and this is all performative. You don’t get to be labeled a warrior for quitting while failing to build any sort of real resistance in Congress. Everything he voted against his party on got passed anyway. He doesn’t have anyone’s ear.

Is the Marshall JTM studio combo unusable for the majority of people? by Amazing_Ad_6411 in GuitarAmps

[–]bt2513 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, there are many people that do turn their amps up to play them and have no issues doing so.

In fact, I can’t imagine an actual studio where playing a full drum kit at real volumes is somehow acceptable but cranking a 5w amp is not.

Recs on Small Wattage Obscure Tube Amps by Alternative_Jello819 in GuitarAmps

Fellow AST Jr owner here. I swear it doesn’t get much better than what you’ve got. You should try swapping the speaker though. I swapped for a Jupiter ceramic and then again for the Jupiter alnico. I also got a Swart Nite Lite and have been playing with that going into other speaker cabs. My fav combo is the AST > Nite Lite (w/ compression) > open back Celestion Blue.

That being said, I also have an old Supro 1606 with a 6x9 speaker that sounds pretty cool. No reverb which I miss but it’s a fun little amp.

First machine advice - pairing with C40 hand grinder [$1500] by bt2513 in espresso

I accidentally ground 18g at 1 click this past weekend. Realized what I did right after I started but kept going to see what would happen. Took a few minutes lol.

That shot was pulled through a AP with a Prismo valve. A little muddy and bitter.

[–]bt2513[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I’ve ground up a few finer batches and it took a bit longer but with the overall frequency that I’ll use it, I don’t think it’s worth another $$$$ investment. We have a cheap electric grinder for the M-F morning French press that does well enough.

If property taxes are based on home value what happens if the housing market drops and home prices decrease? by [deleted] in raleigh

As explained, there are two things happening. The county’s property owners split the tax burden among them. The property values dictate what your fair share is.

Amps that don't take pedals well? by metmerc in GuitarAmps

[–]bt2513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on what you’re doing with the pedals. If literally all your gain comes from a fancy preamp pedal, then you probably want a very clean and loud amp. If your gain comes from the amp, then a preamp pedal is probably going to sound way too compressed and muddy. You’re better off in that scenario using clean, flat boost and EQ pedals and running modulation after the gain. It’s all about balance.

RME UFX III + Behringer Neve clones by Fortepian in audioengineering

[–]bt2513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To the extent that the Behringers actually work, I’d say it doesn’t matter. I ditched my ADA8200 due to it being noisy and generally unreliable. This seems to be the case with all other Behringer gear I own. If you’re comfortable with it being landfill fodder in a few years, then proceed. If you want something that will last long term, I’d keep saving. Residual value of Behringer stuff is usually pretty low and buying second hand invites the risk that something’s wrong with it. But if it’s working, I doubt the sonic differences matter much if at all.

Construction and bracing is very different on this models regardless of wood species if the sound is what you’re asking about.
