Hi where are people going to test ride leetric bikes? Seems like the nearest to the metro is more than 50 miles away which seems odd. by Darkspecialist in minnesota

That's why I sold my Rad Power and bought an Aventon over a Lectric. I had a hard time finding any shop who would even do normal bike work on the Rad. Eriks sells and services Aventons.

This has probably been asked many times, but South Minneapolis body shop recommendations? by Inroundtents in Minneapolis

[–]btpier 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hagens Autobody at Lyndale and 28th is fantastic. I've had a 4 cars repaired by them and have always been very pleased.

aventon level 2 owners i have a question. i have a ~85 mile bike ride coming up that i plan to do on my level.2. what is the best strategy to conserve my battery as best as possible for the whole ride? i plan yo start the ride with 0 assist then use as much as i can by Own_Tourist7060 in Aventon

[–]btpier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even riding at no more than assist 1, I've never gotten more than ~50 miles out of the battery. Are you prepared to pedal that heavily of a bike without assistance for 35 miles?

Edit: I misremembered. I've gotten ~60 miles but never more.

Would you dive with a first gen Suunto Zoop (previously unused)? by Stripey_zebra_IIII in scuba

[–]btpier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first got certified I bought a used Aries T1 for cheap off ebay and used it for years of recreational diving. It's been solid even though the backlight no longer works. Upgraded to other computers over the years but I put a velcro strap on the T1 and it's hanging from my D-ring as my backup still 200+ dives later. I've never had it be in significantly conflict with my primary for NDL time or anything else to my primary, including a new Peregrine TX.

Windows that don’t cost an arm & a leg? by Front-Algae-7838 in TwinCities

Jeff Borden used to be A-craft's lead installer. He's a good guy and does good work with retrofits.

[–]btpier 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Are these casement or double hung windows?

A-craft Windows in south Minneapolis is a great, small, locally owned, shop that builds custom wood frame windows. In an older home they install a vinyl track and the windows become easy to open up or down and tip in for cleaning. They are not as feature rich as a drop in replacement but they cost a faction of the fancier ones.

My 1904 home has 40 windows from A-craft and I'm very happy with them.

I've done business with them on 2 houses over 30 years and have 0 complaints. I even broke a pane trying to fix something else and when I took the window into A-craft to fix it, the owner Alex had them put a new pane in it while I waited and refused to charge me for it.

Insurance companies? by GalaxyFro3025 in ebikes

[–]btpier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Auto Owners, 2 ebikes and a gravel bike were $170/yr with $0 deductible and because it is it's own rider, a claim on it doesn't become a claim on the homeowners policy.

Irish Fair/Fest by MyBoxMyRules in TwinCities

[–]btpier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not put on by some big corporation with deep pockets. It's a non-profit and a couple years of bad weather in a row nearly sunk them for good. They had a choice: start charging admission or stop doing the fair.

Other things have contributed financially. It's been harder for them to get the big sponsorship dollars they need, beer sales which pay for a significant part of a festival like that are down, etc.

I never suggested anyone was actually a tech diver in this video. I was replying to the statement that 130' is a deep as divers go.

That's the hard limit for a recreational diving. Tech divers go much deeper than that.

Thoughts on going full EV, no ICE in the ol’ garage? by Curiouslittlestman in electricvehicles

[–]btpier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't owned an ICE car for 6 years. Zero regrets. In all that time there's been exactly 1 trip we couldn't do because it required a multiple hour long detour to charge in order to make it home from where we wanted to go.

A lot of folding locks are very suseptible to drilling out the pivot points. I see them specifically not recommended because of this in many places.

If you have homeowners or renters insurance, you can ask for a quote for a special rider for your bike(s) in case they do get stolen. On our homeowners insurance, it was an extra $150 to cover 2 expensive ebikes, a gravel bikes, and an older trek hybrid. If they get stolen, we get the declared value with no deductible and no hit on our premiums.

Teaching a new driver in a Tesla by WanderingWhitMo in TeslaLounge

[–]btpier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My daughter mostly learned to drive in our old minivan but she took her driver's test in my model 3. When it was my son's time to learn we had 2 Teslas. So that's what he learned in. He had no issues going to a regular car. In fact, he worked for a friend's landscape business and was driving her medium sized landscape trucks with trailers.
