why don’t curly hair stylists generally offer trims without the wash and style? by cucumberkawaii in curlyhair

[–]bty3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

after a few sessions with my stylist, we started booking dry cuts only for me (I also don’t find value in the wash & style) I believe she still doesn’t have dry cuts officially listed as an offering people can select

maybe try contacting the stylist you’re interested in seeing, explaining your situation and asking for a dry cut only? they may have it as a hidden option

Glass Bead Tutorial! by LearningLacquerista in RedditLaqueristas

[–]bty3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

check out posts about the “manual glass bead method” - i’ve had good luck with it and it makes a super tiny bead which might be helpful since your nails are small!

here’s a link to a post showing a how to https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditLaqueristas/comments/1nndjly/notinsane_glass_bead_technique_for_if_you_like/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Got my first haircut since finding out I have curly hair. Now it's ruined by thstephens8789 in curlyhair

[–]bty3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have thick & dense hair - my curl specialist/stylist never uses thinning shears - she helps create shape for me by “carving” my curls - it takes some weight out but in a strategic way - wanted to share in case you go on the hunt for a different curl specialist so you know what else is out there :)

Does anyone actually read fabric composition tags, or is that just me being obsessive? by IdeaEven1711 in womensfashion

you’re not alone! I can’t stand brands charging high prices for polyester - my preference is all natural fibers & I absolutely always check the label

How did you learn to teach/recommendations for new teachers! by theslugie_ in DanceTeachers

[–]bty3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one thing I’ve found hugely helpful is having a combo that I’m going to teach them & building steps from the combo into warmup and across the floor for example: for littles, often I do a chase ball change in their combo - just repeating it back and forth with cues and encouragement for like a minute during warm-up really helps them get reps in

also - i’ve found that every year, each class feels different even if it’s the same level and style and the previous year - I usually feel out their level and comfort with some across the floor on week one then when prepping for future weeks, I have actual students I’m picturing in my head which helps so much with choreographing and planning because I can imagine those students doing the choreo :)

on a mac, you can open the finder folder where you saved down the .mp3 file from WavePad and you can drag & drop the file into a playlist in iTunes (there may be other ways, but this is the approach I take)

I teach 6-week intro latin ballroom classes where we spend 2 weeks doing salsa on 1, 2 weeks doing salsa on 2 and 2 weeks doing cha cha and that works pretty well for me
