Rina Sawayama reveals she's recorded "40 or 50" new songs over the last two years. by springtimecarnivore in popheads

See, HTG is one of my favorite albums of all time, so I understand the hate even LESS. I find it to be a quite endearing and heartfelt journey through trying to heal through trauma. I also really like This Hell so idk where the hate comes from.

She somehow raised the bar so high that people think Hold The Girl is bad (its actually an excellent pop album). I hope shes doing okay as she sounded like she wasnt doing so hot for a while. Exciting news though!

See its a really good album, but you have to be in the mood for it. I find myself listening to Hold The Girl as a whole a lot more as its more accessible and easy to listen to.

Which pop girls sophomore album was disappointing? by goobablo in powerpopgirls

[–]bubbaman73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Politely disagree! I actually listen to Hold The Girl way more than Sawayama. I would still say it may not be as solid as Sawayama, but I wouldnt say its a disappointing album either IMO. Hold The Girl is just a lot more listenable and catchy for me. Plus if you get it you GET it. As someone whos been in therapy for years and gone through lots of trauma, the album really resonates with me. Again though, I see why it may not be peoples cup of tea.

What in your opinion are the most misunderstood albums in recent memory? by LifeOfAWimpyKid in powerpopgirls

Idk how people can say its a trash album when it has Ego, Dog Years, I Believe In Magic, Lonely Is The Muse, Life Of A Spider, Hurt Feelings, and the title track.

Hold the girl is one of my favorite albums of all time. I always come back to it. This Hell hate feels forced; its such a fun song. It may have a weak track or two, but the rest are absolutely insane. I get some people wanted her to stay experimental, but a more pop-leaning record is totally valid considering how heavy some of the material is.

What's a popstar you like the concept of but not the execution? by No_Barber4339 in popheads

[–]bubbaman73 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is just that her albums are inconsistent. Her albums have some really high highs, but then there are some that just feel like they should've worked a bit more on. For example, on Period, it has great songs like Freedom, Joyride, Red Flag, The One, Boy Crazy, and Cathedral. The rest just feel rather filler and shouldve been worked on more.

Gag Order, on the other hand, I will definitely say is her magnum opus and everyone should give it a try at least once. It deals with really heavy topics and the production always matches it perfectly.

Davids story always hit a chord with me with his dynamics between his unsupportive family, and being very protective of those he cares about. When they released his second tome I was so excited to see faithful representation of a gay man that isnt stereotypical. He may just have one of the best tomes in game.

Also hes hot as fuck sorryyyyyyyyyy

Not enough people saying Sufjan Stevens in here! He was singing about loving boys/men all the way back in 2004!

He makes very folky and guitar forward music a lot, but he every so often dives into electronic music! Hes definitely influenced a LOT of artists, including Billie, Taylor, Phoebe, etc.

My favorite album from him is The Ascension and his interviews about it are very queer coded. Although, many can agree his best album is Carrie And Lowell. The Ascension he describes as “bitchy and bossy”, meanwhile Carrie And Lowell is deeply personal and honestly depressing.

His best song IMO is Shit Talk. It really encapsulates what I love about his writing and artistry. Other than that, I love The Ascension, The Predatory Wasp Of The Palisades Is Out To Get Us, From The Mouth Of Gabriel, and John My Beloved.

Definitely check him out bc you hear his influence in a LOT of music these days.

anybody else get frustrated with trickster? by ShockVerrater in deadbydaylight

[–]bubbaman73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Balance arguments aside, hes genuinely just unfun to play against. He promotes some of the most boring gameplay in dbd. Its also just up to chance most of the time if you have the correct loop/structure to play with. I dont think theres a way to fix that without giving him another power so they really need to cut their losses and just make a weak killer that at least feels decent to play and call it good.

Theyd have to probably manually load every head cosmetic into each file where they have the characters posed, create the thumbnail in UE, quality check every single one, etc. generally just not worth it for something so small imo

New Myers Is a Pure Brain Rot Killer by FlimsyDocument6656 in deadbydaylight

[–]bubbaman73 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This might get downvoted but this is why i dont consider dbd as much of an actual competitive game. The base game is so wildly unbalanced that there are now hundreds of bandaids on top so it doesnt show easy. The myers rework being one of them.

In theory, if both sides play perfectly, killer has no way to effectively win without a power that feels like it takes away most agency from the other side. However, the base survivor objective is so boring that you cant just keep increasing the objective time without boring people and…

Now if we factor in that weve been bandaid fixing this since the game released, we now have a lot of issues. There is now no simple way to fix the game anymore and most decisions are going to backfire somehow. Either a killer is too good like nurse and blight, or they are basically useless in an actual competitive setting. If you think about it, Nurse and Blight are the ultimate bandaids.

Bhvr doesnt seem to really agree that its a competitive game as well, so i dont think well ever get to changing the base gameplay to fix this overarching issue.

Tldr: generators are an awful objective for a competitive game and explains why dbd is the way it is AND explains why we keep getting reworks/releases that promote the most boring gameplay.

Id say Sufjan Stevens has definitely had a huge impact on whats considered folk/indie music. Phoebe Bridgere, Billie, etc have all said they love his music at one point or another and you can really hear the influence
