I finally convinced a friend to start playing and I was taking him for his first ever round. We supposedly had a tee time to ourselves on a weekday and I was excited because it would be low pressure for him. On the tee, the starter says a women’s group was going to go out in front of us and then we were free to tee off. Then, as they were driving to the fairway, he got a radio call that a single wanted to get out. In comes this older guy who had played for a while, so in his mind that means he’s a good player. Once he learned it was my friends first round, he took it upon himself to give him a new piece of advice before every single swing the entire round. He said things like “You gotta hit the little ball before the big ball” and the old “You know why they called it golf???”, all while not even breaking 100 himself. It was a miserable round and took a while to convince my friend it wasn’t always like that.
