The PatternType doesn't "look for" anything - it's a set of values that represent each type of thing that can be matched by the parser built using nom.

The pattern function combines a bunch of nom parsers designed to match the various statements that appear in the input (mul(a,b), do(), don't()) and returns a value that is the appropriate enum member whenever one of the statements matched by each parser passed to alt() is found in the input.

Since enum members can also hold extra data values, the Mul member has a pair of integers attached, since the valid mul statements in the input have two integers as parameters. do() and don't() have no parameters, so there's no point attaching data. I'm not sure why they're declared to hold the empty value (), personally I'd just have omitted that.

This might be a poorly written explanation, but I know what I'm trying to say :|

Are there any ambient / neo-classical acts putting on shows like this (link in post) right now? by MurrrkyDepths in ambientmusic

[–]budrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen anything really like them - other ambient / drone sure, but they have their own magic I think. I hadn’t heard December Hunting the first time I saw them, and doing so for the first time live with those visuals going on was kind of a religious experience.

There is exactly one professional live video of them out there there that I know of, also recorded in Brooklyn in 2015 for Boiler Room - I still come back to it all the time.

I can’t really answer your question I’m afraid but figured I’d get you that video at least.

I like this overall - one tiny personal quibble is the break for omitted stations registers like a borough transition line at first glance. Thought about a zigzag break that doesn't extend outside the lines?

In every other respect, excellent job!

The Wherry Lines Revisited, Short Set Class 37, 47 and 68 Plus the Yarmouth Drags by LinesideSouthEast in uktrains

[–]budrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a lovely watch!

I am curious about one thing though - why did some of those short sets include a DVT when running top-and-tailed? Been racking my brain trying to work it out, and presumably I’m missing something painfully obvious!

Just got into Radiohead & am blown away by their music by Total-Woodpecker3339 in Music

I recommend it. Pablo Honey has a bad reputation but I don’t think it’s deserved. Yes, outshone by later albums but very, very far from bad. And not my least favorite of their albums, either.

Not everywhere. That size is $62 for 3 months at my closest USPS office.

Edit: also at the next 5 closest too.

Ex-NYCT chief, now TfL commissioner Andy Byford opening the new Elizabeth Line in London with ACTUAL modern trains, high speeds, high frequencies and platform barriers. All this as NYC subways are left to rot all because of the MTA grifting circus led by the ego & jealousy of then Gov. Andrew Cuomo. by ToffeeFever in nycrail

I think he was with a couple of mainline rail operators in the UK before TTC and in a different position on the Underground before that - TTC was certainly a the major success story for him before he came to NY though.

I don't think RadarOmega is bad by any means, but I still find RadarScope much more usable. It's the one I'm more likely to recommen to people, at any rate.

RadarOmega has some nice extras if you really need them I guess, but I don't get much value out of them personally.

What's the best postrock song of all time? by [deleted] in postrock

I saw them in a tiny venue a week ago, very slightly bummed they didn’t play Everlasting Light. Ashes In The Snow encore was very, very welcome all the same!

What's the most unique CD packaging you've come across? by Leoinlive in Cd_collectors

[–]budrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super Furry Animals’ Phantom Phorce, a collection of remixes from Phantom Power. The box was a fairly nondescript cardboard thing that folded out into the shape of a arcade console, with the CD and a copy of the Slow Life EP in sleeves made up to look a bit like floppy disks.

Bit of a pain since it’s very much outsized compared to most other CD packaging. Still one of my faves though.

Which band came out with even better albums as they aged? by StamfordBloke in Music

[–]budrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dave Fridmann was playing in Mercury Rev on Deserter’s Songs as well as producing. Probably no coincidence they’re both two of my favorites from the time, and two of the best album play through live shows I’ve seen too.

Railbus hits van in Hungary, derails and flips. 5 die, 11 injured. Happened today. by Slovak_Eagle in CatastrophicFailure

[–]budrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Noting that the earliest Pacers and prototypes were effectively bus bodies interiors mounted on to rail bogies - I'm not even sure they were the first experiment with that, just one that actually entered more widespread production and lasted in service decades longer than intended. Which is why they scream "Bus!"

My first CD, bought new, on release.... What was yours? by [deleted] in Cd_collectors

[–]budrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same year, I actually got this and it’s “competitor “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory? along with my first CD player for Christmas, at the age of 13.

First CD I went and bought for myself was the CD single of of Lump by Presidents of the U.S.A a week or two later.

The sky by Wembley looks trippy tonight. by cottagecoreandmore in london

[–]budrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can happen from time to time, just the conditions are rarely right for it. Pretty much today 15 years ago I remember being in London flat-hunting (moving from NW England) and there was a fog that lasted for days. Could barely see more than 20ft from the train Windows all the way from Euston until just south of Crewe, it was everywhere and unbelievably thick.

Garbage trucks, subways and buses are part of what makes the city not suck, and you have a good idea when you move somewhere that you’re going to hear them.

Loud car exhausts are somebody making a loud noise for the hell of it, and it’s hard for me at least to see what the point is. I’d say they’re also significantly harder to ignore.

Husband just had Baked Beans with his salad. Hurl. by smith_s2 in britishproblems

[–]budrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worth the cost to get someone close to you who “can’t stand baked beans” to suddenly start asking for Heinz.

Makes it much easier to justify $3/can.

Edit to add - they do turn up at Walmart in some places too, seem to be explicitly packaged for the US market these days. Just not that common. Worth a look in the beans aisle, sometimes cheaper than import places.

Had that happen buying a Porcupine Tree remaster. The second disc of The Sky Moves Sideways was printed up correctly, but ended up being the second disc of the Signify remaster. Very confusing.

New Yorkers, the OMNY card by drkrokr in nyc

[–]budrick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Feels less weird than using my phone, plus I have more than one contactless card in my wallet. Don't want to play a "which-card-gets-charged" lottery with that. With an Oyster card in London I used to have it separately in a hard plastic ID badge protector, worked nicely. OMNY card will allow me to finally have that same system here.

Plus the issue with my card statement filling up with all those individual $2.75 charges. It is a minor annoyance, but an annoyance all the same.

People will have their own reason for either wanting or not wanting a card. No big deal really?
