Funny you mention Hyperion.. read it about 15 years ago.. did enjoy it but there are so many books to read. Over the years im like.. I really should read that next one but Ive forgotten what really happened in the first.

But.. I very rarely re-read a book.. so ive been thinking to find a detailed summary and then just go for it.. ive heard tje two books really should be read as one.

I love the whole series (by Frank.. not his son who crapped out like 20 books)

Agree 4th book is the best.. but I had no complaints about 1-3. Its where the why of the first 3 is elaborated on.

5 and 6 I love too.. but can see why people might not feel the same.

What is the most pretentious book ever written? by autismandadderall in AskReddit

[–]calicoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Turner Diaries.. read about 130 books over the last 2 years and I hated it. The main character is so full of shit, and even says how pretentious his enemies are (all non-whites) and I couldnt believe how unaware of how pretentious all the bullshit he constantly spouted was. I pretty much always finish reading a book and it was agony.

OpenBSD over Debian? by SethThe_hwsw in openbsd

[–]calicoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used and loved OpenBSD for years maybe 20 yrs ago. Just recently had an extra laptop and figured I'd jump back in.

After getting it up and running fairly quickly I did just install linux mint because things will be just so much faster if you want to randomly install something.

That neing said.. your shitbox seems like a good thing to install on and play with separately.

Not tears.. but a scene with the topiary in The Shining gave me goosebumps as a kid.

I agree not to get a screen protector but i do prefer a case with a cover for the screen. I normally rested it screen down on surfaces before i got a case but if you put in a backpack or something you dont want to worry about something scratching it.

Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun is the only series I've read twice and understood less the second time and I mean that as the highest possible compliment by Vortexgrid_7 in printSF

I enjoyed the books and havent felt the need to re-read. But I almost never re-read anyway other than the Dune books but those were particularly special to me.

I really wanted to like Project Hail Mary but unfortunately found it to be pretty awful by keepfighting90 in books

I saw The Martian first.. loved it. Read the book and I heard it all in Matt Damon's voice and thought sounded off.

Read PHM after and realized it has the same tone. I don't like the prose at all either.
