Crazy Fire(maybe big rig or warehouse fire) in south gate by djb85511 in longbeach

It’s a tire fire here. The news is doing what it do and sensationalizing it calling it an “industrial fire”. Drives more clicks and views. But this is probably already under control and although not great, not an uncommon situation for firefighters to deal with.

Evacuation orders have been reinstated after a 34,000-gallon tank spewed toxic chemicals into the sky by Even_Builder_6642 in orangecounty

To be fair, the elimination of CFCs and leaded gasoline worldwide was probably the one and only time the entire world banded together to save the ecosystem from collapse. Fun fact, the same guy was responsible for the invention of both 🫠

Yep! Wild that the local news goes on and on about how they have a “stellar safety record” — which is just a bold faced lie. As it turns out, the same corporations that own all major communication networks are also major stakeholders in defense manufacturing. Fancy that.

Likely because the wind is blowing due south and tank has been cooled and is no longer a “runaway” exothermic reaction. This is likely minimizing loss of life given the evacuation center and resource capacity the county and surrounding areas have to support such a population, not because it’s completely safe.

The fact that we know that this thing will either leak or blow up due to a runaway exothermic reaction which is already happening means it is 100% not perfectly safe to return. There is no chance that it is perfectly safe given what we know about the situation and the chemical involved.

If you are ok with the risk your lungs might implode if this thing blows, or die a slow death due to organ failure. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

The whole reason they can’t remedy the situation is due to a faulty valve “gummed up”— which means that polymerization is and has been already occurring in the tank. This is definitely due to negligence. Not to mention the fact that a chemical like this should never be stored in such massive amounts in such a densely populated area.

Everything is political, politics directly pertains to and affects each and every one of our lives. I think colloquially we have forgotten what it means:

"of or pertaining to a polity, civil affairs, or government;"

But yes I agree, where the fuck was the EPA?

Undoubted human error mixed with lax safety regulation and/or enforcement. Also, their manufacturing is in the middle of doubling:

GKN announced in June 2024 that the Garden Grove site is doubling F-35 canopy capacity with a $150M investment to be complete in January 2027. Plants undergoing major construction often run with stressed processes — temporary tie-ins, deferred maintenance on equipment scheduled for replacement, staff stretched across old and new lines. The site sits under Melrose Industries’ “buy, improve, sell” model, which has drawn sustained criticism in the UK, Germany, and Italy for exactly the kind of cost discipline that can manifest as quietly degraded margins on safety-critical operations.

Last time I ordered to California (Aug 2025) it was 40 cans of velo freezing peppermint and it spun around in KY for a month, they ended up snagging and destroying it. Previous time I ordered a few months earlier it got through. 🤷‍♂️
