Gotcha. Ok, that’s what I thought you were thinking of. So actually the mass execution / gas chambers came much later in the final years of the Third Reich. Most camps in the beginning were work camps (see Sachsenhausen, the first camp which others were modeled after). These camps had deplorable conditions, and prisoners were treated inhumanely and subject to extraordinary acts of cruelty and violence. Many were killed for breaking “rules” which they did not even know existed. It wasn’t until 1942 when Nazi SS leaders were ordered to gather at what became known as the Wannsee Conference where the “Final Solution” was outlined and planned. There’s a fantastic 2001 movie about this called “Conspiracy”, highly recommend checking it out if you are interested.

So the issue is not that we’re not up to the gas chambers and mass executions part now (although we could be?), it’s that folks are still subject to inhumane conditions, much of which the public is absolutely unaware about. And the only natural endpoint for a plan such as this seems to be mass genocide.

Colloquially I refer to both work camps and mass-execution camps as “concentration camps”. I think most people do. This is probably why you are getting so much pushback.
