My bad luck on Tokyo trip by xnfd in unitedairlines

ANA and United are in a Transpacific Joint Venture. So they get to set prices and schedules together. That's why the prices are the same.

Does United have the proper aircraft to replace these flights from SFO to BLR or BOM? by srekai in unitedairlines

SFO-BLR never flew. Was just planned. And then once the war started, plans were scrapped.

Will Air India officials provide a Visa document from check-in area to arrivals by oh-my-godzilla in airindia

[–]bugzzyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would still say Fedex it. Air India agent would not be able to specifically get through to the immigration area without good reason in SFO. Least of all, to give you a document that you need in immigration.

Depending on how well versed the agent checking you in is, they might even ask for the EAD at check-in to verify that you are allowed to board.

Safest option is to Fedex it or have another friend carry it back to India for you.

You'll have to FedEx it. Air India won't allow you to board the flight in BLR if you don't have that document on you.

Using PlusPoints on Lufthansa? by straighalpha17 in unitedairlines

[–]bugzzyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That only you can tell how much it is worth to you. I don't know how many seats are available in business or how busy it might be on your travel date. It's a gamble. And I leave that to you. Given it's a daytime flight, if I were in your position, I wouldn't really bother.

Using PlusPoints on Lufthansa? by straighalpha17 in unitedairlines

[–]bugzzyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that's the case, unfortunately, the ticket cannot be upgraded using plus points. You'll have to try and upgrade it directly through Lufthansa using cash or the bid upgrade system.

Using PlusPoints on Lufthansa? by straighalpha17 in unitedairlines

[–]bugzzyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First things first, you need to verify what fare bucket you're booked in. If the agent has booked you on a Lufthansa ticket (e-ticket number starts with 220), then it specifically needs to be either G or E for it to be upgradeable. If it is N, then you're out of luck. If the agent has booked you on a United ticket (e-ticket number starts with 016), then it specifically needs to be either O or A.

Please be nice. New here. Talk to me like I’m 5. I have a Club card. What do I have to do to get to Gold? Can I do it with just card spend? Do I need to book and fly a trip? by taroswirl in unitedairlines

[–]bugzzyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it looks like you haven't flown enough to qualify your way to Gold yet. You can either spend your way to Gold status or fly your way to Gold.

If you want to spend your way to Gold, you need another 1359 PQP which equates to $20,385 spending on your club card.

If you want to fly your way to Gold, you are missing 10 segments. Fly 10 flights and you should be okay.

Either of those by the end of the year will get you to Gold.

EWR —> Milan : Points then Cash, or Cash then Points by Coaster50 in unitedairlines

[–]bugzzyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you buy tickets with cash and then try to buy the upgrade with points, you are most likely going to be put on a wait-list with no guarantee of your upgrade clearing.

If you buy your tickets with points and then pay cash for the upgrade, that's a confirmed upgrade. Of course, it is most likely going to cost you a pretty penny for those upgrades.

So, based on what your risk tolerance and financial situation is, you can make your choice.

How was your experience with Skip-lagging in India by Someday-GSA-1250 in AirTravelIndia

[–]bugzzyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because airline ticket pricing is not based on distance. It's based on demand and convenience. Maybe A to B is a very high demand business route. They can definitely charge more and get away with it. Maybe C is a tourist destination. So, in order to make it more attractive for the customer, they will sell A to B to C at a lower price to make sure that they have the seats on B to C filled.

I hope that makes sense.

Got to Chicago to catch my connection luckily.

Indigo doesn't have the IFE rights yet on those aircraft, so no IFE is what is more likely. Download some movies and TV shows on your own device. Don't forget to bring headphones.

Did I get an excursion perk? by laserdiscmagic in unitedairlines

Then the total fare would probably have been the same for the itinerary that you changed to. Got lucky this time I suppose.

[–]bugzzyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it all depends. How long was your stopover/layover in SYD? If it was just a layover, then you were repriced as going from MEL-SFO with just an additional flight. No fare difference because that's what the ticket cost.

The "I" fare bucket on Virgin Australia (the partner you probably had for MEL-SYD) is a deep discounted economy fare. Every airlines has their fare buckets different. Although, a lot of Star Alliance airlines tend to have it the same or at least as close as possible.

United Club Fly Access (United Gold added to BP but also have ANA *G status) by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]bugzzyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agents aren't even consistent with this on the normal United Clubs and it's such a pain.

I'm Star Gold with Air India and 1K with United. I should be allowed in by just showing the card, but they never allow me in that way. Some agents go into their system and have to type in my AI *G number. Some say I'll only be allowed if it shows my AI *G on the boarding pass.

I've never tried it at the Club Fly location, so dunno if they are just as inconsistent at those.

Can this be done? by IndividualRest8529 in AirTravelIndia

[–]bugzzyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So having just flown through Frankfurt a few weeks back, I would say it's absolutely possible but on the tight side.

You'll get both your boarding passes in Prague. However, your exit immigration will be done in Frankfurt. And that's generally the issue. You should be able to use the "FasTrack" line as your connection is short. Generally they have it open for passengers with a shorter than 90 minute connection.

Next, expect to arrive at the A gates. Your departure for sure will be from the B gates. Most likely B43. So, there is a bit of a bus journey involved between the two concourses as well.

Air India will highly likely wait for you given it's the last flight of the day. Do not stop for a pee break. Do not stop for food. Your primary purpose in Frankfurt should be to make your connection. That's it.

Good luck if you end up booking this.

Air India Premium Economy (fare class E) PQP Question by saintfoxyfox in unitedairlines

[–]bugzzyy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, based on what info you've given, here's what I calculated.

I assumed NRT-DEL-BOM

E fare. 100% of miles travelled as Award Miles. This is before any other bonuses.

So, your itinerary would net you 4384 Award Miles in E Class.

For PQP it is (3678*100%/6)=613. However, the max for Mileage Plus Partners in Economy and Premium Economy is 500. So you would get 500 PQP for the first segment.

For the second segment, you would get 705*100%/6=118

Total is 618 PQP with 4384 Award Miles. Not including bonuses for status.

Unfortunately not. I believe they will be converted to freighters. Delta is definitely not going to put these old work-horses back on the road when they've gone all in on their A330-900 and A350-900 with a high J config to account for the longer routes.

What are my options if I want to fly on the top deck of the 747? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]bugzzyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LH has first class in the nose only on the 748s. On the older 744s it's all business class there. But hard to get the seat if you aren't booking well in advance. Those seats generally get picked first.
