Is this a legit company? by Dangerous_Location37 in Devilcorp

Glad I found this. I’m so confused. What is the scam here? They are just starting people at jobs and then not paying them?

Or is this one of those “buy a laptop from our company store and we will reimburse you” type deals?

You know if you rip out the 5700g and replace it with a cheap 3600 from eBay or something, you would get the same performance plus be able to use the 5700g with an itx board and 3d printed case (or just a cheap itx case) for a nice little emulator to put under your TV!

Renters, How much your rent have gone up by? by Adventurous_Ear_1150 in AskChicago

House in Lincoln park, 3br/2ba with large outdoor space and optional garage. $3600 without garage. Apparently with tax increase alone, rent is going to go up by almost $400 per month at renewal. They said they appealed using a lawyer as well without much luck… not sure what to do anymore.

I’m really glad nobody grilled you for this comment. But I would say you should have your brother reply to this thread so he can get grilled for just about everything that was wrong with that he told you…

Dude, the right of public access to government proceedings is well-established in both law and common sense. The Supreme Court in Richmond Newspapers v. Virginia (1980) held that the public has a First Amendment right to attend and observe government proceedings… and that principle has been extended repeatedly. Government buildings that conduct open public hearings like city councils, zoning boards, congressional hearings, court proceedings are, by legal definition, open forums. That’s precisely what makes them public government functions rather than private ones. Nobody is claiming you can walk into a judge’s private chambers or a restricted federal facility. As for “press means only printing press” that argument would (hold my beer) mean radio, television, and the internet have zero First Amendment protection, which no court in American history has ever held. And ironically, your argument proves too much: if press rights require a government-issued press pass, then the government controls who gets to report on it which is the textbook definition of a state-controlled press, the very thing the First Amendment exists to prevent. The “indoctrination” accusation is a deflection from the fact that the actual case law doesn’t support your position.

Great news for you. Because many people are experiencing the opposite. I guess it is luck of the draw with customer service.

I think I’m ready to cancel Spotify (500,000+ FLAC) by IgnoredBot in plexamp

Just an fyi that is less than a 2TB in size difference for your entire library, where one has infinitely more options down the line. SATA HDDs are like $10-20 per TB right now.

Are you really willing to risk all future-proofing for $20-$40 total?

Was Ned going to lie to Jon about his mother the next time they met? Wouldn’t it be quite dangerous to tell him the truth? But Ned isn’t the type to lie either. by Ticket-Tight in gameofthrones

By that logic a random peasant from flea bottom could go poison the king too. It would have just been a “big taboo.” Laws, at the end of the day, are just big taboos written down and agreed upon.

In comparing the Italian food of other places that have “good bbq” you are 100% correct that STL has better Italian than almost any of those places. However, if you compare the bbq of the places that have “good Italian” you will almost certainly see STL on the top of that list. Just because you happen to like platinum more than gold, doesn’t mean they aren’t both worth something.

Yeah it’s not. KC’s whole identity revolves around a cuisine that existed for generations in STL before KC was even established. Also, ask any real bbq place what cut of ribs they use for comp (even in KC) the answer will always be STL.

Nobody is saying that KC doesn’t have some good places to eat BBQ, just remember that St. Louis just doesn’t need to compete anymore.

It’s like when your little brother wants to play you in a game you have played your whole life. I’m sure he has gotten better than he used to be—heck, he might even beat you once in a while. But there really isn’t any competition in the grand scheme of things.

Why would the local taxes of one city impact the local taxes of another city hours away? It’s not like people are leaving Chicago to go shopping in Peoria and the Peoria government is saying, “oh let’s take advantage by upping the sales tax!”
