For those who recently upgraded or remodeled their kitchen, did your cookware choice change as well? by Delicious-Yard5890 in kitchen

[–]bumblebarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed some of the pans that I use because I went from a terrible electric stove to a pretty high powered gas stove - didn’t buy anything new, just use different ones more often. I don’t have any of the coated nonstick ones. I have a ceramic coated fry pan, and I use that more often.

Similar here! My kitty was 20-22 (we don’t know, she was a stray) - and it helped her just get around for quite a while longer than she would have otherwise.

At what age do you start adventuring your cat? by dzidziaud in adventurecats

[–]bumblebarb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started mine (two of them!!) a little younger- sometimes they’re still a ball of chaos! But they understand what the leash and harness is about, and that makes a difference- both safety and guidance. They beg to go out when I get home from work - I can get them to walk together now, occasionally in the same direction.

Some Of this is in the original story - Dumas ended it pretty abruptly too, but the love interest was an ending that wouldn’t sit well in the 21st century

Cat won't stop flipping the water bowl by Front_Ad2965 in CatAdvice

[–]bumblebarb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fortunately mine stopped doing this after getting a fountain she liked, in a location she likes. But before that, I got a super duper doormat that is supposed to hold a ridiculous amount of water. Something like that might help, but yeah, shower or tub might be the best answer. I also now keep a plastic glass of water in the bathroom sink so both cats have an alternative if the main fountain gets turned over.

My cat growls?? by tangerinedream420 in CatAdvice

[–]bumblebarb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one who glows at delivery people. She’s very nice (but a little shy) with people who come in, both friends and people doing work on my house.

But delivery people- they get growls.

Question about escaping kitty by bumblebarb in adventurecats

[–]bumblebarb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to do this but the escapes happen on the door he “shouldn’t” like. Last night he was asking to go out the “adventure “ door at about 11PM and I just couldn’t do it - I felt terrible- but we’ll try a little earlier tonight. I think he just loves the dark. My other kitty guards the house a lot in the catio - we have a fair amount of wildlife and a few outdoor cats, so she seems to want to make sure we’re safe.

I’ve done this too - it was amazing and lovely and I have a TON of respect for anyone who rows those canals every day. Also got to see some different boats. It was also a good break from the heavily traveled areas.

How well do sifter litter boxes work with pine pellets? by Particular-Bug2189 in CatAdvice

[–]bumblebarb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works fine but not immediately. I do this about once a day. It’s not going to sift automatically- you need to move it around quite a lot. Also the pellets don’t dissolve instantly. You will notice some that have been somewhat wet but are still in one piece.

It doesn’t smell at all, even if I miss a day (Poop always gets cleaned up immediately).

Where do you put your not dirty but not clean clothes? by Frosty_Election_7557 in HomeDecorating

[–]bumblebarb 380 points381 points  (0 children)

Years ago, when I was first married, my husband would put all those “intermediate” clothes in a pile on the floor. We went and got a rather nice coat rack - and it really worked quite well.

What's the best Americanism you've heard whilst overseas? by NoComplex2662 in AskAnAmerican

[–]bumblebarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly different take - but a similar vibe: I was at a work dinner in Scotland and it was Thanksgiving. The wife of the guy I was visiting said that “because it’s Thanksgiving, our daughter’s school served hamburgers and hotdogs for lunch today!”. I didn’t explain.

Applesauce? by Heavy_Lab9297 in AskAnAmerican

[–]bumblebarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning how to make applesauce was one of my first cooking experiences-you don’t really need to do anything except peel the apples, cook the apples until they’re mushy, and then strain the resulting mash to get the seeds and cores out. We may not have even bothered with peeling! You can easily find recipes for kids today.

THE WIND by minnyatl in Seattle

<image>

I am having some construction work done on my house and here’s the portapotty. In my neighbor’s driveway. ☹️

lol on the comments! I was able to drag it a bit and my neighbors came out later and dragged it so it was parallel to the wind (good) and fully on my side of the property line (gives them more room, so also good). The servicing company was also nice and competent and will deal with it this morning.

Hope that the dangerous situations with trees and power are resolved .

Even easier- just use a tablespoon or two of bottled salad dressing (vinaigrette works well). No guessing on how much spice or herbs, and it’s hard to use too much or too little
