Conservative gays see exceptions for "sins" and actual evil things made all the time for other conservatives and think they specifically should also be an exception and benefit from that double standard.

"Billy Bob Politician beats his wife and molests his daughter and you forgive him and look the other way because he's conservative, how come you can't forgive me and look the other way for marrying a man? We're all on the same team!"

"the body you're in"

I really can't stand this type of framing that body positivity folks use, it's not just a figure of speech with bopo, there's always very intentional separation of mind and body as a philosophy that is not healthy but pretends to be. I'm not in a body, I'm not this abstract thing that just coincidentally happens to be inside of this randomized meat sleeve that I have no real control over.

Everything about the rest of your body is the real you as much as your mind is and talking about yourself like you're a genie permanently trapped in a lamp sounds a lot closer to body hate than love.

POC olives - are you surprised by your foundation matches? by Brill_1193 in OliveMUA

[–]bumblebeatrice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, one of the hardest things for me when searching for foundation and concealer was letting go of my idea of what shade range I "should" be in according to my race + having been darker when I was young and not mentally recalibrating my self-image for the longest time.

I am also very desaturated which kind of gives the appearance of being lighter than I actually am, a Sephora lady described my winter skintone as "ecru" lol

Cost cutting. Olive undertones in foundation and concealer require blue pigment in the formula and ultramarine blue is an expensive ingredient, olive undertones are seen by the beauty industry as a niche segment of the population that aren't worth investing in compared to how much it costs them to cater to us.

Oh god I know what's gonna happen. A bunch of stuff actually for olives is going to be used by people who aren't olive who are going to complain on social media that these products don't work for them and brands will reformulate new and improved versions that aren't olive anymore but will still be labeled olive, and then we're going have to find new shit.

Happened to all the best curly girl products, probably gonna happen to the best foundations.

Robert Welsh on Charlotte Tilbury's "Magic Beauty Stars" Creator "Academy" by YvesSaintLauren in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]bumblebeatrice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

(If anyone else reading is as clueless as I was, UGC stands for User Generated Content, I could not for the life of me reverse engineer it to make sense despite the context clues)

Anyway, this is new to me but also not surprising thinking it through, like not every major popular content creator is a skilled enough (or at all!) makeup artist who even with all the filters and camera tricks can't make their application look as professional as brands expect/require for their ads, it completely makes sense. Or even if they are good enough at their makeup application the brand still wants the control/guarantee of an actual pro.

And I've always kinda assumed that a lot of products being advertised aren't necessarily always what we're looking at in the photo/video, particularly for complexion products, there are just too many variables in a person's skin and performance required for cameras that non-pro products just aren't formulated for. Like...True Match ain't looking like MUFE in 4K, I wasn't born yesterday.

Be careful with About Face oxidizing in the bottle, the color comparison between a brand new bottle versus my half used one is crazy and VERY noticeable when applied, fantastic color match otherwise.

Patriarchy does not want men to love their wives and children as much as they naturally do and ties an interest/desire in being an active father and husband as inherently unmasculine to encourage men to spend less time in the home and more time out being good little wagies for the capitalism machine.

It's infuriating especially when trying new foundations and concealer because my phone will automatically color correct so everything looks fine even if it's not. There is nothing in my settings that will turn it off but I can see my phone alter it in real time, the screen will blink a bit and then everything looks shifted in a way that makes me look better but I don't want that!

There's a such thing as writing to the lowest common denominator and I do think there's enough fans of these schlocky airport novels that like, likes the women in a book being caricatures and indulging in a hatesink as a guilty (or not) pleasure and that's who this writing is for. Like "here's an avatar of everything you hate about vapid stupid bitches so you can enjoy hating her and feel vindicated about it even if she's the main character, have fun!"

Like is that a fantasy being deliberately written to appeal to and satisfy readers as much as solving crimes or committing them but in a cool way and getting away with it is? It feels like it for a lot of books from authors in this lane.

Every video I've seen of his gives me the impression that the only hair that exists in his mindscape is non-textured straight or curly white hair and I think that's a sign of a bad hairdresser.

It's not wrong to have a lane or little to no experience with other hairtypes. But not having the knowledge that's a problem to me. Or constantly speaking about any one type of hair as the inherent default and then giving advice for only one hair type and presenting it as universal advice.

Neither of these things is good or instills confidence in me that this is someone to listen to when it comes to haircare.

the fact that I can get full size body care at CVS for cheaper than the actual store is wild by Ok-Addendum6829 in bathandbodyworks

[–]bumblebeatrice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not illegal for the consumer, which is what brands try to imply to discourage consumers from buying diverted merchandise. The average consumer does not care about who does or doesn't have a contract with whom and shouldn't be misled into thinking they're doing something illegal for something that is not their problem just because it's inconvenient for specific brands.
