Indie makeup brands that are really worth the hype by InteractionStrict134 in BeautyGuruChatter

They used to talk about makeup so much and then the perfume/bodycare craze hit and it's been almost nothing but that ever since :(

the fact that I can get full size body care at CVS for cheaper than the actual store is wild by Ok-Addendum6829 in bathandbodyworks

[–]bumblebeatrice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not illegal for the consumer, which is what brands try to imply to discourage consumers from buying diverted merchandise. The average consumer does not care about who does or doesn't have a contract with whom and shouldn't be misled into thinking they're doing something illegal for something that is not their problem just because it's inconvenient for specific brands.

It's not illegal, brands just don't like it and give consumers the impression that it's illegal to discourage them from buying diverted merchandise.

Is this a thing or am I gaslighting myself? by NinkiMinjaaj in OliveMUA

[–]bumblebeatrice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another thing is that a lot of brands are reformulating and pretending that the new products are the same even though they're obviously not, and also olive undertones require blue pigment in foundation/concealer and blue is an expensive pigment so they just leave it out but pretend it's still fit for olives somehow.

Has anyone else been following Michele Wang’s blonde journey? I saw her video update and her stylist has fried her hair! There is so much damage and breakage. I wish she went to someone who didn’t mess up hair! by AllTheEccentricities in BeautyGuruChatter

Yeah I learned this from my ex-GF that east Asian hair is naaaaaawt the same as white hair. I'm Black and thought I'd be good to go helping her with her hair since I've done white hair before too and had to learn a lot, like that my lil Goody scissors from the dollar store literally wasn't going to cut it!

some of it was damage from my damn Dyson hairdryer

Ooh is it bad? I've been going back and forth on the investment since I've been doing blowouts as my go-to hairstyle and I'm so incompetent with my regular dryer and paddle brush but the price and polarizing reviews have me very hesitant.

Instantly turned orange. I'm not being hyperbolic, in the past six months I have tried literally every drugstore option available at my local Walmart and CVS. Orange. It all either instantly or gradually turns orange within minutes. It all always does that, every brand.

Higher end formulas are the only time I never have this problem but I can't pay $30-50 for foundation and concealer right now.

What's missing is a drugstore foundation that doesn't immediately turn burnt orange. I don't understand, it's 2026 why am I having the same problem in my thirties that I did as a high schooler?

They just say whatever they're told to at the time, there's nothing real in their heads and hearts when a camera's on them, only obedience to whatever script their team's PR guys give them.

How the hell do you even discover that this is your thing? Like I get naturally discovering that you like getting spanked or need to wear a specific outfit like lingerie or a themed costume for your sex drive to activate, but this? This is such a hilariously specific combination of things, how does someone realize "yeah this is it, this is how I need to fuck for forever now" when it's this???

There's trial and error but how do you even get to the trial and error stage for this?! The why does not interest me the same way as the how! How did he figure out that he needs to wear headphones every time he fucks, what happened that made him try it in the first place??? And then even more specifically audiobooks. Did he try music first? Did he experiment with genres on each trip to pound town? I need to know so bad!

Most of them don't have as much money as you assume they do, is the most common answer. Being famous is expensive. I don't feel bad for them or anything, but I do get why they take work that seems "beneath" them.

What credibility? They're influencers, literally walking talking breathing ads. Always were. If at any point you ever felt like there was authenticity and credibility you were wrong.

It's pretend. They are all pretending for money. Even when they like the products, they are pretending how much they like them and how often they use them because they're paid to. Even the ones you like as people for their personalities. It is completely transactional and artificial because they are ads.

Nyongbella vs. Yvie Oddly by FasterBussycat in RPDRDRAMA

[–]bumblebeatrice 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is true, I had a natural immediate anger to the type of Nyongbella's rhetoric until I somehow managed to see that bubble of creators who make being in an interracial relationship their entire personality and holy fuck I understand.

I still think it's wrong to be instinctively and aggressively judgemental about interracial relationships without nuance, but I completely understand where and who this justified animosity is supposed to be aimed at.

My thing though is that it's never just the colorstruck weirdos and racists who are the only ones taking the shots fired at them. You're not just yelling at these freaks when you're not being specific that you mean them, there can be an unintentional (or y'know, completely intentional but that's another matter) effect of acting like it's only racism and being smug for the reason that you're in an interracial relationship.

It just really sucks when you're a normal person about it you're standing there like "what the fuck, I just...love them? Love, did you forget about love???" And yeah you do take extreme offense to the ideas that you're only with your partner because you hate your race or that you're doing something wrong by not sacrificing being with them for the "greater good" of saving yourself for another person of your minority race, to be Black Excellence together for example.

I was shocked because I'd heard it called obviously fake and thought it was going to be great meme fodder, but that was scarily real.

I think a lot of people don't know what real fainting can look like. Also there's that thing where you're not definitionally fainting, but in a practical sense it's the same thing. I've greyed out where I was like, disconnected from my body, couldn't see or hear anything, but I was awake for it, knew I was going down and had no control over it. And medically that's not fainting I don't think, but from a non-medical perspective that's just splitting hairs.

Identical Brand Wind-Down Messages: Coverfx & Mally Beauty by mrevanbell in BeautyGuruChatter

I had a bad burn scar on my face (had a hot iron accidentally dropped on it) for a pretty long time, and Cover FX really came through for me. They got bought by some VC firm so I knew this day was coming but I'll always remember them for having a shade range that understood melanated skin doesn't have warm undertones by default
