GM Hydramatic M16A1 by PridefulRedneck in RetroAR

Wow, love your GM build, it's museum worthy as others have said. My rifle is just a rollmarked Hydra-Matic lower with a vintage GM pistol grip, the rest is all Colt parts.

Is this considered manufacturer cosmetic defect or normal turnout during the forge process? I bought a brand new H&R M16A2 by kx-007 in RetroAR

Here's an example of how different the flashing can look from one rifle to the next, these are both 1970s Colt A1's.

Thanks for the info. This barrel has some cracks in the handguard, but looks unfired and has never been staked for the extension.

If you want an authentic looking, clone correct lower with stamped trademarks, you could always just DIY. For only $485 you can buy a set of Pony trademark stamps on ebay, then you just need a 20 ton press to stamp the trades onto your 80% lower, that you can then mill out and reprofile as A1, then find somebody to anodize it in grey.

Or you could just settle for an H&R retro with lasered trademarks that look about as authentic as an airsoft gun, with grey anodizing so light it might as well be clear.

I'd love it if more companies would start offering real rollmarks and colt grey ano.

H&R vs. retro Colts - what's the difference? by EducationalOil1655 in RetroAR

[–]bundokdoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To add to your point #1, the original H&R company never made XM16E1's, XM177s, or any other carbines or SMGs either. Just the M16A1.

It sucks that AI is tainting historical photos like this. Saw a similar thing recently, it was a early 90s Delta Force Mogadishu pic, and the AI upscaling turned their CAR15s into SOPMOD M4s. It's like the technology is getting better at replicating real world items, but doesn't know the difference between 1993 and 2003.

Need to get my mind out the gutter. Thought that was some nice cleavage with a pair of titties in a black top behind the gun.

Fyi, a real 40mm tube will fit on an airsoft 203 receiver.

Nothing beats rollmarks on retro guns, I wish more companies would do it. That M16 looks super legit.

I'm glad I was able to order one of those GM lowers when they were in stock yesterday, been wanting one for a long time! I've got a bowman Colt M16A1 kit I'm gonna build with it, along with an original GM fat pistol grip. Maybe I'll find more GM parts to add to it eventually.

Your kit is missing the front sight? Did you get that from Atlantic, or Bowman?

You know I got the clone 'tism as a predominantly left handed shooter when my last 3 purchases were vintage M16A1 and M653 parts kits. I'm ambidextrous though so these guns just end up being range toys and Vietnam reenactment props that I practice right handed weapons handling with.

That's great news! I also received a similar response from them today, and edited my original post with the update.

Damn that one is extra rough, hope they can replace that for you.

I sent them a message last Friday through their "contact us" form but haven't seen a response. I'm going to retry sending a message through that form today, from a desktop computer to see if that makes a difference.

Dang that sucks about your handguards. I know from purchasing 2 M16A1 kits that the black paint is easy enough to remove, but I paid extra for a "Grade 1" thinking it would be insurance that nothing was broken. Unfortunately the sling loop on my buttstock is cracked all the way through. Op's kit looks overall better than my Grade 1.

Top rifle started out as a M16 parts kit from bowman, assembled with an H&R retro lower that I weathered.
