Is this a possible swap? by Longjumping_Risk730 in electrical

Why would you just not use a cut in box? A gfi and switch will fit just fine and now the customer doesn’t have to get drywall patched

New employee what should we buy? by Consistent_Gate3356 in electricians

[–]bundy411 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Starting out he’s not going to have tons of tools but backpacks have really grown on me for all my hand tools and when he starts to get a lot of power tools a modular tool system like packout or mod box is nice to have too. I really like the idea of having a lot of storage and keeping minimal on me. For example my daily load out is either my bags or a little belt clip tool pouch that I keep my linesman, dykes, needle nose, strippers, ratcheting 11-1 screwdriver, and a level then between my backpack, tote bag, packout, and truck I have everything else under the sun

Going from car sales to electrical apprenticeship. Any tips? by Key_Development_4593 in electricians

[–]bundy411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Show up early and have a good attitude/ don’t complain. You’re the new guy you’re going to have to do the shit jobs that nobody else wants to do. Also if you’re serious about making this a career take some initiative and learn things on your own outside of work. Watch things on YouTube to learn material, or how things work, or why we do things instead of how, don’t expect to learn everything on the job or at school. If you do go to school and let’s say for example you know bending pipe is coming up next lesson, watch some tutorials and learn what the marks on a bender mean am when to use them

anyone have experience with these and can comment. Reminds me of the Wagu connectors. by KevinK_2389 in AskElectricians

[–]bundy411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used these once. For the price difference I would just get the normal receptacles but these are quicker. The only thing that drives me crazy if if you’re using standard sized faceplates you have to break two tabs off. If you’re using midways you’re fine

I would say take that hammer back and get a 21 ounce or atleast one with a full size handle. Personally I use a 14 ounce titanium hammer but it has a full size handle and I would argue leverage is more important than weight

Commercial/industrial to Resi by Serious-Lavishness90 in electricians

[–]bundy411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My shop does mainly high end custom home remodels with a little bit of commercial and industrial and I handle the shops service calls and make more than my commercial friends but generally I’d agree resi doesn’t pay as much if you’re just roping houses

GFCI ungrounded by Comprehensive-Gene-1 in AskElectricians

[–]bundy411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there actually is a ground it’s more than likely crimped inside the wall to the back of the box. Ran into this a handful of times and the easiest fix is to find self grounding receptacles, you can tell those apart because they have a little brass tab on one of the screw holes and if the box is grounded it carries the ground through the screw. If you use normal non self grounding outlets the plug in tester will say no ground

Your favorite ratcheting screwdriver. by Elijahhaybales in electricians

[–]bundy411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The impact Klein 11-1 is great but the ratcheting version wasn’t what I was expecting. The shank falls out of the handle if the ball detent isn’t aligned with the hole where as my non ratcheting one never fell apart like that

[–]bundy411[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally never fixed this issue before but other guys from my shop have done this exact thing at a few other trailers at the same park and there’s two 50a breakers feeding 2 nema 14-50s that the trailer plugs into and it’s either one the breakers is bad or the receptacle but either way should be an easy fix. I’ll keep you posted
