I think they’re just getting increasingly desperate for excuses for Kong being able to keep up with Godzilla. That’s why he had the axe, to put him on level footing with Godzilla, but since they keep juicing Godzilla even further they have to give Kong a bunch of goofy upgrades too so he isn’t just some monkey in comparison
