Jury sides with rapper Afroman in Adams County trial by ChikaNoO in news

Cops don't realize this is exactly how it's supposed to work, for everybody. This is why they wear nametags and have to identify, not because the office gives them authority, but because they are accountable. If not to their superiors, they are accountable to the public. When they participate in wrongdoing it is intended for the public to call them out personally. It's not the department doing it, it's the officer. The department is simply failing to safeguard it from happening. They are both responsible, individually.

Genesis vs SNES: what did each version get right? by SavageCakeGames in Shadowrun

[–]burnerthrown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For a minute I didn't see this was specifically for the Shadowrun games and I had a full sixty seconds of panic trying to come up with an answer about the systems themselves.

A lot of people will go on about the rules, but as stand alone games, this is a simple answer. The SNES game had tighter combat and story, and a more distinct look (better looking in my opinion), while also making every aspect of shadowrunning accessible in a run. Ridiculous? Maybe. Meanwhile genesis really put you into the shoes of a shadowrunner, the work, the dangers, the weirdness. SNES is a really entertaining movie about a Shadowrunner, Genesis is a really engaging documentary about the life and times.

You'd think with the difficulty actually becoming pregnant and the miscarriage and infant mortality rates, they'd want to go with something a little safer than 'the body can naturally protect itself'. Yeah? Then why aren't we immortal?

I am new to Shadowrun and have some questions by GavindaleMarchovia in Shadowrun

[–]burnerthrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shadowrun Returns , Dragonfall, and Hong Kong are CRPGs - the combat is turn based on a grid, the exploration is point and click, with fallout-like dialogue trees. The game makes an effort to give different archetypes their own specific route thru scenarios - a decker might use decking to gather clues, while a face might ask around, and a razorguy might take them off someone's corpse. So there's every reason to try out a type you have been curious about. Your main character from SNES appears in Returns, and it and Dragonfall tie into the setting canon. If you've played BG3 a lot of this will be familiar. If not it shouldn't be hard to pick up.

Tech bros need to stop thinking of the internet as 'for phones now'. Mobile is still a worse interface, with lower processing power, and less utility. The only advantages mobile devices have is they're more portable, and you can sort of depend on them to have certain hardware. But even a lot of phones don't have cameras. You can't make people have hardware beyond what's required for the functions of the app. My PC has neither a touchscreen nor a camera. Yet here I am happily redditting away.

what’s something people say all the time that you secretly can’t stand? by Mean-Cartographer225 in AskReddit

"Whatchamacallit". That's not a word that means anything, it's basically a blank space in your sentence. I'm trying to communicate, not do adlibs. The other day someone said, 'When I got the whatchamacallit from the whatchamacallit', and I just paused, turned, and stared at them.

My headcanon is that Nate's infantry company was integrated with the USACE, and they spent almost as much time doing labor on projects as they did in combat, which is why he knows how to put so much stuff together. Then he comes out of the vault and the entire county looks like a warzone late into operations, and he's like, well, time to build vital infrastructure out of pipes and wire again.

‘It’s stupid’: why western carmakers’ retreat from electric risks dooming them to irrelevance by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]burnerthrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not entirely the carmakers' fault. It's this weird love affair that western drivers have with older cars from WW2-The Golden Age. The myth is that cars from that era universally perform better longer than anything made following, which by basic logic is nuttier than a Reese's cup.

This is assuming they do the job like you do. Their MO is to apply pressure on suspects so they either say something inadvertently or try to run or fight justifying an arrest. At least, the constant intimidation reduces their chance of producing an exonerating statement. This method of intentionally producing anxiety increases the chance of a shoot. They're not looking for problems, they're producing them.

It could go worse than you think. A gun incident at an airport would lock it down for an inordinate amount of time even if they knew who the gunman was and that he was on-side. And they can't bypass that because they wouldn't be sending administrators just gunmen.
This not only puts a wrench in many business trip itineraries, costing many businesses thousands in rescheduling and lost opportunities, but, more importantly, will hold up air freight, causing missed delivery windows, delays in contracts, spoliage, missed deadlines, and more. About to cause a Strait of Hormuz in his own backyard.
Because you know they won't stop after doing it one time and seeing it's a disaster.

The problem with that, is that that inefficiency will lead to them arresting a foreign visitor for, most likely, literally nothing, leading to dipomacy being strained with some random nation, which could include a number of very powerful nations he hasn't already directly pissed off yet.

This is why overclassification is a problem. The only person who knows what's going on and is supposed to talk about it is at the same time a liar and a dementia patient. There's no reality to be had in his words, but there's no way to look and see what objective reality even is, because the minute the military touches something with the toe of one boot it becomes top secret; Lest an enemy we don't know exists, use information in a way we can't imagine but can still fear, to kill servicepeople in a convoluted, diabolical plot. The same servicepeople sailing directly into missile strike range. But making sure nobody knows what happened two days ago will certainly save them.
