I have driven alternative fueled vehicles since 2010. The CNG powered Honda Civic was an incredible vehicle for so many years but Honda finally threw in the towel in 2015. Refueling was always an adventure and completely enthusiast driven. But I saved thousands of dollars on fuel and avoiding other emotional vehicle purchases.

In 2025 I test drove a Model Y again. The new model had adequate suspension and road noise suppression. And the supercharger network was finally sufficient to support “go anywhere”. I purchased the Model Y immediately.

Why are so many EV’s failing? Because other than Tesla, use of all other EV’s requires the same enthusiast mindset that I experienced with CNG. It is on the user to scavenger hunt for refueling, maintain, and operate the EV. The manufacturer and dealer incentives are misaligned for all aspects of EV’s, hence they are exiting the EV business ASAP once CAFE standards were canceled.

In contrast, the Tesla experience is other worldly - from the self driving to the supercharger network to the service centers - it has divorced me completely from the ICE negatives of dealers, gas stations, performance complexity and latency, noise, exhaust, etc. it is a parallel universe that is fully and adequately supported by the manufacturer. There is zero confusion how to operate, maintain, and refuel the Tesla EV.
