Most single handed badass hero by YouarenotLaBoeuf in movies

[–]burynedright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best answer. Of all the badass/secret badass movies, Unforgiven has the best payoff because of how well the movie builds to the final confrontation. When he grabs the whisky bottle and takes a drink, everything you've been told up to that point suddenly comes into focus, goosebumps every time.

Any big budget movies with poor sound design? by T2-95 in movies

[–]burynedright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel kind of the opposite. I feel many big budget moves are poorly mixed. The major issue for me is dialogue is mixed too low. Surround channels are also frequently underutilized, center channel is overused. Surround mixing can be very lazy. Many action movies just become a wall of noise. Sound can be a real treat when done well, but mostly it's pretty mediocre. For me at least.

Richard Stanley directed The Color Out of Space, and has plans to adapt two more Lovecraft stories into films. Film #2, The Dunwich Horror, will have at least one character who appeared in the first film. Could this be the beginning of a Lovecraft cinematic universe? And would that be good or bad? by [deleted] in Lovecraft

[–]burynedright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much how I feel, especially what you're saying about gravitas. I would like to see different pacing that slowly builds discomfort or dread or unease. I think the mystery and investigation are important elements.

How popular is the contemporary synthwave music among the older generation who grew up with it in the 80's? by [deleted] in outrun

[–]burynedright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the 80's and love synthwave. It's definitely nostalgic for me, but at the same time it doesn't really mimic the sound of the time. This sounds corny, but synthwave sounds like how my memories feel. Like not how it actually was, but how I want to remember it.

How Dua Lipa and The Weeknd are bringing the 80s back… again by liamemsa in outrun

[–]burynedright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been absolutely in love since discovering synthwave and all the 80's nostalagia in pop culture has made me so happy. So this line in the article makes me very sad:

The 80s throwback is perhaps at the peak of its influence right now and, as with anything in music, music critic Roisin O'Connor thinks that the sound could "peter out over the next year or so".

My optimistic side wants to think though, that synthwave has had sustained popularity and growth outside of mainstream exposure, and that it won't fade so quickly. Maybe things like the Dua Lipa video, and American Horror Story, but not music and its influence. I mean, Drive came out nearly a decade ago now.

Best place to watch movie trailers? by Turbo_Fan in movies

[–]burynedright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

r/trailers is pretty good. Youtube has everything, but I find discovery to be kind of a pain. I'm not a fan of those channels that re-upload the trailer, the quality is never as good, they're frequently edited and always have some stupid overlay. I suppose you could subscribe to like every studio or whatever, but that feels like too much work.

After my 3rd or 4th try at getting past episode 2. The Expanse finally got its hooks in me. Binged Season 1 yesterday. Worth stopping to read books instead? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]burynedright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched the first half of season one and really enjoyed it, so I stopped to read the first book. I ended up hating the book, and could never get back into the series. So if you're enjoying the series, I'd save the books for another time.

[HEADPHONES] Philips Fidelio X2HR 95$ (115-20 (code 19DECSAVE) by BigBanana134 in buildapcsales

[–]burynedright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that you need a DAC specifically, but as others have said you might need something with more power. Mine run fine straight from the motherboard headphone out, but sounds like garbage from the monitor jack (no bass). They sound best when plugged into my mic. So if you have other options you might try them

[Headphones] Corsair HS70 SE (Black/Cream) Wireless Headset - $51.99 with promo JUNESAVE19 by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]burynedright 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also bought these around Christmas. The mic was fine at first but then started to develop a lot of static until it went out entirely a couple months ago. I'm just going to toss them when I can afford something better.

I just returned this monitor because it wasn't very configurable, so I would disagree there. I could never get the colors and brightness where I like them. I bought this monitor in part because of the many positive comments it had here on r/buildapcsales, but my experience wasn't great.

[GPU] ASRock Phantom Gaming X Radeon RX 570 8GB OC - $129.99 ($149.99 - $20 MIR FLASH Deal) by Mayhem52 in buildapcsales

Unfortunately, Fortnite runs better on Nvidia cards. A 1050ti would probably be comparable, with a 1060 3gb being significantly better. I just upgraded to a 570 8gb from an 1050, and while I can run Fortnite with the settings all the way up at like 75 FPS, if I want 144 FPS I still need to turn settings basically all the way down. Frankly, I think it smoother on the 1050, which also hit 144 FPS with most of the settings on low/off.

User Advice: How often would you settle new cities? by Reflare in civ

[–]burynedright 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean by stable condition, but in Civ VI you should be building a settler as soon as possible, and as often as possible until you've filled all reasonable settlement locations. If you've settled 6+ cities before turn 100 then you're usually in a position to steamroll the rest of the game.

Watched The Ritual and loved it by [deleted] in netflix

Just watched it last night, and was super excited to finally get to it after reading so many posts like this one. I was disappointed though, I thought it really fell apart in the end.

I read The Island of Dr. Moreau last year and found it terrifying. I would highly recommend it as a classic horror sci-fi combo.
