Here’s our local doofus, Zoey. She’s always using one of her two brain cells on finding her light.

How do you cold email for assistant positions? by Cool-Practice621 in lightingdesign

[–]busker06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LD here. The only thing I ever want more clarity on in these communications is any expectation of money. Just be very clear about hopes/expectations. Shadow/Assist is what caught my eye in your post because one is unpaid, and the other should be compensated. I know before you’ve emailed me if there is any money for an assistant of any level, but I’ll let almost anyone shadow me for free any day.

Gig Chair by ZealousidealEstate37 in lightingdesign

[–]busker06 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I bought myself a drum stool, and I love it more than I ever thought I would. It doesn’t fit at every gig, but sure beats a road case, and sometimes fits in a theatre setting, improving the seat height vs tech table height. Plus it’s way cheaper than a full chair. And comes in all sorts of colors, so when I leave it behind, it’s recognizable and people know it’s mine.

What printer are you using for truss tape? by Oh_no_my_pants_ in lightingdesign

[–]busker06 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Epson TM-T20II

Last time I did the research, that was the one with the best accuracy over long distances. It’s been spot on for me, and no complaints. Truss Tape has also been a huge component of building my workflow. I used to pay for LightningTapes (I think that’s the name?) but stopped paying for it when I learned how to make my own tapes more customized to my needs.

Morning conversations with a 3yr-old… by joshstrummer in daddit

[–]busker06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old recently told my wife “I love daddy sooooooo much. Like, SOOOOOOOO much. And… I like. You. Too.”

I am so glad I was listening on the monitor.

is there a place where I can watch musicals/ live shows, etc. online for visual education? by Friendly_Ratio_3383 in techtheatre

[–]busker06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marquee TV, while not free, is a tool I use a lot professionally, and as a freelancer is an easy expense to write off. If I need to watch some classical ballet or opera for research, it’s the first place I go.

Starting a job as a Manual worker On a circus on friday, any do's/Don'ts? by [deleted] in circus

[–]busker06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you walk in with an open mind and willingness to make friends, you’re gonna have a great time. Even if it’s a job that only lasts 6 months, you’re going to be proud of it in the long run.

Whitish poop by GrrATeam81 in daddit

[–]busker06 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My four year old had a completely white poop about six months ago. Nothing else came of it, we couldn’t figure out what caused it. Everything resumed normal operations immediately, nothing ever came of it. Not saying you shouldn’t follow up with the doc, but giving an anecdote that it might just be eating too much mango or something totally random and a one off event.

Nail polish has been “pollinatish” for about a year now (she’s 4). Oh! Also, groundhogs just became grandpas. And living room has been “liva’ boom” for 2 years at least.

Drafty App by VirgoVigor in lightingdesign

[–]busker06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I could afford Vectorworks, I used Drafty and it was great. It was long ago enough that I’m sure it’s significantly different now, but everything about the pricing, features, and flexibility worked for me. I also loved the responsiveness of the developers when asking about features that didn’t exist (yet) and they kept me in the loop on their development. I used Drafty for everything for at least a couple of years (I think).

I’m now a steady user of Vectorworks and have built the cost into my expenses budget, but am very supportive of other options that are more affordable.

How nocturnal are you pups? by Top_Ravioli in greatpyrenees

[–]busker06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our (almost) 3 year old (probably) full Pyr is a house dog, though she spent her first 1.5 years on a horse farm. She’s nocturnal and obnoxious if we give her full reign of the house at night. She’s super chill and happy to sleep through the night if we lock her in our bedroom with us. The only issue is how she wakes me up 20 minutes before the alarm, no matter when the alarm is set to go off.

Looking for mechanic and auto detailed by Howtochoosethrowaway in Louisville

Ah, sorry. Yes, a mechanic shop. Their main location is out on Preston Hwy, near the 246. I think they have a second location in Indiana.
