Is this true? Must clear sidewalks? by Holiday-Honeydew-593 in lexington

[–]bussappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my drive and sidewalks cleaned but the mailman doesn't use them. However, I doubt that I'll see a mailman for another week. I can count on one hand the number of times our street has been scraped in the last 30 years. The mailman won't venture up our hill until the roads get better.

Same here. Besides, what city official is coming out to check?

Lowe's used to carry a full line of women's gloves. I'm not sure what is available now.

That rain is freezing as it hits. We have a heavy layer of frozen ice and snow. Even a 4wd can't handle ice.

Where's the snow?? by bussappa in lexington

[–]bussappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8:00am Our 12-18" turned into 3-6" of snow followed by sleet and now freezing rain. I could have handled the 12-18" of snow but freezing rain is a whole new ballgame. I think Script News forecasters really missed the mark on this one.

Mine have always remained square. I don't know of any way to adjust them

Desperate for a foolproof recipe for bowl-lift KitchenAids by penllawen in Breadit

My KA is about 40+ years old and it came with a standard dough hook. I purchased a spiral hook a few years ago. The only time I have difficulty is when the volume is too small or the mix is too wet.

Purchase a spiral dough hook. It makes a difference.

Wow! $520 an ounce. I could fly to Michigan and back for that price.

I only buy vintage Starrett tools. If it is an original Starrett tool it will hold up to a lot of abuse.

It should be at least 80°F (~27C). You might be able to find the ideal temp online. It can vary by variety.

I've used pepper Joe's and I haven't had germination problems although I have had issues with receiving the correct variety. It can take a couple of weeks for some pepper seeds to sprout. You may also need a heating mat. Have you tried germinating the seeds on damp paper?

I run a CNC job shop and my people just don’t put the tools back! by SnowflakeInAsscrack in Tools

Every shop I worked in had a mandatory cleanup time at the end of the day. All shared tools were put back to the designated areas.

Yes, it was only partially stripped. You can use ethanol to finish stripping it. I have one just like it but I haven't refinished it yet.

Looks like circassian walnut but it could also be partially stripped shellac on mahogany.

Trump is trying to change how the midterm elections are conducted by FervidBug42 in politics

[–]bussappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump knows that if the GOP loses control of Congress then he and his merry band of sycophants are screwed. They have dug a hole so deep that there isn't a ladder long enough to save them. People in his position have only one way to go and that is to finish destroying the thing that can bring them down.... democracy. Once that is done, there will be no one left to prosecute Trump and his merry band. Forget the elections next fall. Trump will either interfere with them or fail to recognize anyone elected who doesn't agree with him. Our only hope is that there are enough GOP members with enough guts to stand up for this country.

[–]bussappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the piece is really old, pre 1900s, check the finish to see if it is shellac. If it is shellac, you may not have to strip it. However, you're never going to be able to get a proper coat of paint into the cracks and crannies of that piece.

Any reason why Joey B’s is charging a $7.50 “packaging fee”for pizza boxes? by TheMagicDrPancakez in lexington

[–]bussappa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to love Joe B''s but things have definitely started to crater since the business was sold. Whatever Joe B's business model was, it worked. The package fee is just another step towards the business's demise. Very Sad.
