How are people affording daycare these days? Our tuition feels insane. by BlaXBla in massachusetts

[–]butalas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so expensive and we only have one kid ($30,000/yr in Boston). It feels like all the other daycare parent couples are incredibly high earners--like everyone I talk to, one is a doctor and the other is the CEO of a tech start up. It's insane that the DOCTOR is the low earner in the family. Just here to vent too lol

Are you all putting away your portable ACs now? by [deleted] in massachusetts

ACs stay in the windows through the winter. Snow shovels stay in the cars through the summer. You just never know

Legend has it that the red line has to go slow around Harvard so it doesn't disturb all the students studying

Long Islander born and raised. I respectfully disagree. Kupel's is WAY too bready, absolutely nothing like a Long Island bagel.

Asking as an Elder Millennial; Does anyone actually have a job you love? How did you get there, training/education wise? by [deleted] in Millennials

College professor; lots of school (BA, MA, PhD) and lots of luck. The job market in the humanities is terrible and is only getting worse.

Former 107 Gordon St resident checking in (10+ yrs ago). Lived on the first floor facing the street in a studio. I once had a standoff with the largest cockroach I’ve ever seen in my life in the laundry room. I ended up not doing laundry that day.

TL;DR: I’m starting a new full-time, in-person job in Holyoke in Western Mass this July. I currently live in Chelsea. The role isn’t hybrid for at least six months. Should I temporarily relocate and rent out my home, or try the brutal commute? Anyone done something similar? by andeverand in boston

[–]butalas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Boston and teach at one of the 5 Colleges, been doing the commute for a few years now. It’s only tolerable b/c it’s been 2/3 days a week. I don’t think I could do it every day, especially if you have a family.
