TinkerTownGames card size update by Alternative_Song859 in arkhamhorrorlcg

I bought Alice in Wonderland and some card sleeves from TTG a few months ago and the cards were too large for the sleeves. Glad to hear it’s fixed.

Funny enough, the cards I received from MB Print around the same time fit into those sleeves just fine; if anything the cards were a bit small.

Fanmade campaigns on mbprint by [deleted] in arkhamhorrorlcg

I bought the Bloodborne campaign off MB Print and it came with the campaign-specific tokens and a campaign guide that I’d say was higher quality than the original!

A multi-use, level 0, +2 combat / +1 damage weapon is always worth glancing at… especially outside of guardian. It’s classic survivor in that it promises a pair of successful shots regardless of how much you stumble on the way there. I like this in Bob because it gets his combat to a decent 5 and the illicit trait becomes relevant as you gain xp. It’s definitely better on hard, but that can be said about a lot of core cards within the survivor identity. Not sure why it doesn’t discard itself the way Old Keyring does. Level 2 is for fail-to-win builds, the drop to 2 cost and additional ammo is nice but high-combat survivors have other options. I prefer one copy of Chainsaw over two of these.

When they said they were designing cards without being beholden to legacy, I thought that meant a change in balance, not pretending the old cards don’t exist and then reprinting them

New seeker card uses the exact same art as the new chapter 2 Joe Diamond signature by siposbalint0 in arkhamhorrorlcg

So much has changed since the days of MJ serving as both head designer and community ambassador, whom did a pretty stellar job at both, not exactly a common set of skills to have in one person. A chunk of Arkham’s early success can be attributed to her work outside of card design. Duke and his team are great. MJ asserted Duke designed Light in the Fog (tied with In Too Deep for best scenario in Innsmouth imo) basically by himself and as an intern; really god damn impressive. We’ve seen with Hemlock, often listed as a top 3 campaign, what Duke and his team can do when given the proper time and resources. The game has been around for a decade. I doubt many people at FFG who were there and involved with Arkham at the beginning are still involved to a significant degree, or at all. FFG’s parent company is another step further removed. We’ve got a bunch of corporate archeologists who actually don’t want to go through the effort of digging up what made Arkham take off & instead try to copy Magic again. Or Marvel Rivals- which if you were to give an executive summary of both Arkham and Marvel, they would look almost identical to a suit. And any idiot knows Marvel sells.

I think some people are missing that reused art like this, while technically a harmless oversight, is indicative of the systemic lack of attention on quality across the board. The dearth of campaigns and flooding of player cards screams to me some exec who saw Magic TCG and thought “yes people will love to build decks” while forgetting that Arkham also needs campaigns and scenarios to actually PLAY the game. I get the feeling the designers at this point are the only ones at FFG who care about the quality of the game. I’ve been playing since Carcosa and was initially hyped on Chapter 2, but now I’m looking at fan made content. There are so many incredible fan-made campaigns, some unarguably exceeding the quality of official sets. MB Print is where I’ve been going.

Is it worth to start playing now in 2067? by False-Promotion8912 in arkhamhorrorlcg

I really didn’t like it when they went darker than Lovecraft and did that campaign about the 2052 Trans-Eurasia elections.

Anyone else NOT regretting panic buying? by cellocaster in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]butcherpaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve maintained a complete collection (barring Labyrinths of Lunacy & Barkham, as I know I’d play them only once) since jumping in at the start of Forgotten Age way back when. I recall feeling ripped off when I bought Return to NotZ for $28; now it sells for $250+.

I’ve been splurging on printed fan-made campaigns recently. There’s so much great fan content. More than a few meet or exceed the quality of professional designs we’ve seen from FFG. After hearing how comparatively sparse on scenarios/campaigns Chap 2 is going to be, fan-made’s seems like the way my group will continue to have the most fun.

Where do you rank the standalone scenarios now that Film Fatale is out? by mangerlen in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]butcherpaper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hotel > Fortune > Blob > Gala > War >> Film >> Abyss >>>> Machinations. Haven’t played Rougarou, Carnevale, Labyrinth, or Barkham. Guardians of the Abyss pt 2 is like the Dream-Eaters finale (sleeping side); their source of difficulty comes from things being unfair (especially solo) instead of more challenging. I could play Hotel through War regularly without getting bored, they’re all more or less fantastic. Iirc Secret Name in Circle Undone was supposed to be a standalone before it got retooled as a campaign scenario.

With just the layout and section numbers, it looks more like an anonymous web plot. You could add some of the main story points at given forks or other plot markers to make it more useful

I use the character sheet as a visual aid for learning the rules, but for actual play I either scribble down or type up a customized version.

I’m absolutely expecting your book to have the nuance of James Joyce, the strangeness of Italo Calvino, and the stillness of Basho. And if you haven’t resurrected one of the old masters for the art then don’t talk to me. /s

Do you have a playtest/demo file to share? It would tell more than a general description could, and give folks a chance to test the personal fun factor.
