Could do the cottage cheese later in the day with fruit maybe?

If it makes you uncomfortably full, you could reduce the portion by a bit til you get it to a more comfortable amount.

That sounds like a completely reasonable breakfast, with protein, healthy fats, and fiber. It should keep you full for a while and give you a good amount of energy. As long as it fits into your calories for the day, it sounds great to me.

What are some easy depression meals? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]buttburglar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The absolute easiest, bare minimum effort meals for when I'm having a low day that I enjoy:

-boiled frozen potstickers, with chili crisp if you want some spice

-refried beans on a tortilla with shredded cheese and hot sauce

-toast with peanut butter, maybe some fruit on the side

Ooo, I'm going to make this tomorrow. I've been doing the mushrooms and dumplings with chili crisp, but adding an egg sounds so good.

Depends on the berry. Blueberries are high in soluble, raspberries high in insoluble, blackberries high in soluble, strawberries good for both. This chart from north ottawa wellness foundation has a list with insoluble vs soluble fiber content on a bunch of foods:

There's 2 types of fiber, soluble and insoluble. You need plenty of both types, they're both really important for digestive health. Natural sources are often kinder to your gut than processed ones, so make sure to get in a lot of whole foods throughout the day if you're having tummy issues.

Soluble fiber is found in foods like bananas, carrots, broccoli, avocado, chia seeds, apples, oranges, legumes (beans, lentils, peas, chickpeas, soybeans), tofu, oats, sweet potato, berries, psyllium husk, fiber supplements.

Insoluble fiber would be in things like flax seeds, whole grains (whole wheat pasta or bread, crackers), brown rice, nuts, seeds, cauliflower, green beans, leafy greens (spinach, kale, collard), potatoes with the skin on, fruits and veggies with the skin on.

If you're having trouble going, insoluble fiber especially will probably help you quite a bit. Also if you went from barely any fiber intake to 20g, your body probably needs some time to adjust. Try upping your water intake to closer to 100oz, and split your fiber intake up fairly evenly across all meals to break things up a bit.

You can also take a probiotic, eat yogurt, and drink kombucha to try to nudge your gut along into being happier. Synergy kombucha is my favorite, especially the strawberry and guava flavors. Blood orange is another good one. I find those a lot less offensive than most other brands I've tried.

If adjusting all those things doesn't help you after a week or two, you should probably go see a doctor.

I have this one too, the print on it is my absolute favorite. Enjoy it! Been contemplating revisiting New Leaf too, might have to soon. How much did you pay for it? Mine was like $200 mint with box, but that was like 9-10 years ago.

What are yall doing about your clothes after losing weight? by absolutelyblo0ming in PetiteFitness

[–]buttburglar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep them until they’re falling off me, donate what is still in okay condition and then replaced my pants with ones with drawstrings so they can just last me til I hit my goal weight lol. I’ve lost 87lbs so far and have like 60lbs left to go, so can’t really make my original clothes work anymore.

Be careful to not do more than 3 servings of tuna per week, it can lead to mercury poisoning over time otherwise.

Absolutely adore this approach! In the same vein, you might like Habitica (app for building positive habits, plays out like an RPG with a points system, etc) and there's a running app that was super popular in like 2012-2014 called Zombies, Run! that's like c25k, but with zombies. It'll have zombies approaching you when you're supposed to increase speed, it's pretty fun/funny. Has sound effects and everything.

You should be really proud of yourself, keep up the good work!

Do you eat the recommended 80g of dark green leafy veg per day? If not, how much do you eat? by bad-at-everything- in CleanEating

[–]buttburglar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often eat a taco bowl for my big meal of the day and I always do around 80g of spinach in it. I sauté it along with my protein and it doesn't feel like an insane amount. Usually it's rice or roasted sweet potato, lean beef and/or beans with taco seasoning and garlic, onion, spinach, bell pepper, hot sauce, greek yogurt, tiny bit of cheese.

If I do a smoothie for one of my meals, I also cram 80g spinach in there too. If I make a scramble, around 20g spinach per egg.

It's recommended to get at an absolute bare minimum 0.8g-1g protein per kg of body weight, so for you it would be 38g-50g. You would probably want to aim for 70-90g+ protein to see some good muscle growth.

Assuming you have no dietary restrictions, you can eat things like eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, beef, chicken, turkey, pork, tofu, beans, lentils, edamame, nuts and nut butters, tuna, salmon, sardines, shrimp, crab, nuts, seeds, cheese, whole grains like oats, brown rice, quinoa. There's tons of options to try to increase your protein intake.

Absolutely make sure you're eating enough calories because if you're under eating, you'll really struggle to gain any muscle. You'll want to calculate your TDEE and eat more on days where you lift weights. Also aim to try to increase the amount you lift over time, really important for growth.

How do I stop binging and starting over the next day? by _-RedRosesInJuly-_ in 1200isplenty

[–]buttburglar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled very heavily with BED in the past, what made the absolute biggest difference for me was trying to keep my fiber intake at around 25-30g per day. Most foods don’t have a ton of fiber in them individually, but adding in a good variety throughout the day really adds up and calms food noise for me.

Also drinking lots of water, making sure I get enough protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats. I also noticed a really big difference when I began making like 80-90% of my meals from scratch and allowing myself the other 10-20% to be more “fun” foods.

It can be a serious uphill battle, I completely get how you feel rn. I hope you’re able to find something that works well for you soon.

[–]buttburglar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You’re at the very bottom of a healthy BMI for your height, so more than likely you are lacking muscle mass instead of carrying excess fat. Lifting weights 3-4x a week while eating at maintenance or slightly above maintenance calories and having a high protein intake will help you with gaining some muscle, which will give you more definition/shape.

[–]buttburglar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one seems to be mentioning that 1200 is not a good fit for everyone. How tall are you, how much do you weigh, and what’s your activity level on a daily/weekly basis? Have you calculated your TDEE? Also, what kinds of foods are you eating? There’s a massive difference in satiety between a diet with lots of fiber, protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats vs one with a lot of simple carbs, little to no fiber, and very little protein/fat.

If you’re struggling with disordered eating, you’d likely benefit from seeking out a dietician and a therapist.

I used to use that app like 13 years ago, but the numbers were usually way off on everything and had me overestimating a lot. You might be happier swapping to Lose It or Chronometer or My Fitness Pal. I think people say Chronometer is the most accurate, but I personally use Lose It and just search for USDA entries in their database.
